Ok. The MAS-36 and the M/39 I don't have in hand yet, but those are the pictures the sellers made available. I also have a nice NZ-marked SMLE I haven't photographed yet.

Find me one and I'd be glad to! Its the one it came with. FWIW guess_kto has very generously included a correct sling with the M/39 I just bought from him.

For that top LE carbine, is it an RIC or a NZ pattern? What is the bit on the muzzle?

That's my RIC - jewel of the collection. The collar at the end is an adaptor so that the standard muzzle ring of the P88 bayonet can be fitted to a thin carbine-profile barrel. Between that and how the forend shallows out towards the nosecap is the easiet way to tell the difference between an RIC and an NZ.

It fits the same P88 as my RIC carbine, it just has a rifle profile barrel so it doesn't need the adapter. The RIC is essentially an LEC cavalry carbine converted to a similar configuration to the NZ carbine - because the LEC had a lighter barrel and wasn't designed to mount a bayonet, the stock had to be cut back, a nosecap added and the collar added to the barrel, all so the bayonet would fit.

Hm, cool :) So I wonder what type of bayonet fits my NZ... or is my barrel thicker? I love learning this stuff :D

According to the Warren Commission Report, Oswald's carcano was C2766, manufactured at the Terni arsenal in 1940.

what serial number was on the rifle that blew his head off from in front of the car?

i'd be more interested in that one.
