Well it's a 1980. I've got the original box and some paperwork. The box is kind of beat but the original label with the serial # and other info is still there. The gun itself is a solid, solid 99% with absolutely no handling marks other than the slightest of turn marks on the cylinder. You really have to look hard at the right reflection angle to see it. I'd be surprised if it was fired other than at the factory and if it was, it couldn't have been more than a few rounds.
I made a mistake. It's an 82, not an 80. I also have an 82 royal blue and that one has a serrated cylinder latch. The nickel one doesn't.

I hear you. It will remain as is. Was just curious as to whether it was as simple as replacing the bbl and adding a shroud (still unclear to me what a shroud is and how it gets attached).
I'm more of a Smith guy. Picked up the Colt out of curiosity. So far, I like it. Can anyone point me to a source of original style wood grips for my 22?

^The wooden grip with the finger rest appears to be an original fully checkered early Richardson factory Colt target grip, in American Black Walnut, and I hate to say it, looks like someone painted it!

You do realize that it's a Colt setup and was probably sent from the factory like this. Look at the Anaconda Hunter. exact same setup

no i didnt. just hate scopes on revolvers as that gun would look awesome on its own.
i'd bet money that isn't factory but it is nice revolver nonetheless. The ones I saw had the rings attached directly to the rib. I've never seen a factory python with that mount. That certainly isn't proof but if the gun itself is not roll-marked and we are talking probabilities...
