SHTF Rifle - Ideas

For one, get two of whatever you plan on using for a SHTF gun, hell, get three. Yeah, your gonna have to drop that criteria too, those options are going to really limit you, and what I have read of the XCR, I am not gonna buy one, maybe in a couple of years when the bugs are 100% worked out. Anything by Keltec is pretty much not battle ready whatsoever (I have just read this on forums, not from personal experience, if you disagree, I cannot argue with you about this as I have never owned one, but they seem to break a lot, they just seem like fancy gimmicky toys to me, if I had not read so many bad things, I would own a couple by now)

SKS is my answer by the way. Stockpile non corrosive ammo.

People that do not own XCR should not be knocking on XCR.
We are all agree internet is the best place to get reliable information..

A 1000 round can of .223 weighs 30lbs on my bathroom scale, whats the problem here? A dismounted infantryman's ruck can weigh over 100 lbs, that sh!t gets humped. If contact is made release straps are pulled, ruck is dropped, retrieved afterwards (if possible). Too heavy? Bring your ammo, socks, trail mix, toothbrush. 40 lbs tops.

When you're not used to it, walking cross country for 8 hours straight even with just the clothes on your back will be quite something. Add in the mountains of BC and Alberta, this becomes quite something else entirely. Add on 60 pounds of gear, with -15 degree weather? You're burning close to 600 calories an hour? Unless you're in your top shape and your name is Jason Bourne i don't see this happening.
Unfortunately for us city dwellers the elements and the physical effort to walk out of the area will be near impossible.

good thing for you is that by the sounds of it you plan to run to the remote wilderness and play Jeremiah Johnson at the first incling of trouble so all you will need is a few rounds of hunting ammo. As much fun as that sounds, I prefer my chances while staying put fully supplied with strength in numbers

What? No I advised exactly against that! What the hell... I said it would be quite unfortunate for us city dwellers to brave the great outdoors as we would probably perish frozen stiff and starved on a mountain side.

no need to talk about carrying ammunition weight and the inherent problems of doing so if you do not intend on ever carrying it on foot

if they come for one hidden rifle they obviously know about them all and will come to take them all or they will just take you away instead

They would need a shovel and a lot of luck. Lots of areas you can dig a hole and they don't have to be on your property might put a safe in a friends house who has a pal or no pal it's in a safe no big deal don't have to store them at your house. Can they check every single person you know or might know. There is no GPS tracking on every firearm made so there is no way to get all of them no matter what. You can dig a hole you can give them away you can store them inside a wall and paint the whole room ect. Can't find what they don't know about sure they might find a good number but it's impossible if you know how to hide things or if you hide things off your main property.

that is why I said they will just take you away instead, In a scenario where SHTF, martial law is invoked and they come to your door to disarm a now illegal gun owner, It's basically game over unless you give them exactly what they came for.

They would need a shovel but not necessarily a lot of luck. Have you heard of satelites or unmanned aerial surveillance drones? Our government has them, the us has many many more of them.

Lots of great ideas guys but I'd like to add my 2 cents. Light and reliable also I don't see a great need for a battle rifle. Something like a remington Micro 7 in 223 with a suppressor. My reasoning for this is I don't wanna be seen or heard. I don't wanna have to get in a gun fight I'd rather avoid the whole situation my moving quite and unseen. Only shoot when I have to but make those shots count. When shtf I'm gonna head for the bush and get back in touch with nature. You can't shoot what you can't see right.

I'm aware of how much a dismounted infantryman's kit weighs. I am one.

You are going to carry around 1000rds in a pack with couple pairs of socks, some trail mix and a toothbrush? What kind of scenario are you looking at here where you don't bring water or shelter?

Exactly why I said that when they come for my AR's and pistols I will comply and politely hand them over. I'll even throw in a couple crappy old shotguns to make them feel good. Once they are gone I'll have my back-up out and the back-up for the back-up buried out in the woods.
I don't want a rifle to fight the police or military, it is solely for self defense and hunting for food.

Alternatively:,... Ar15 you say? ah here ya go officer,.. isn't that such a nice (stripped) lower,,.. make sure you note that serial number for your records,.... have a nice day now.....

But in reality a confiscation for SHTF.... they would be after everything and perhaps the registered ones may just be 'unavailable' at the moment. It would be almost logistically impossible for them to just take you away in almost all SHTF confiscations.

Youtube some articles on Agenda 21 and the FEMA.
The US government is preparing for domestic war. What happens there will spill over to Canada, our countries are much more connected than most realize.

SHTF and WROL are real things we should be preparing for.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS1ur4-mjuc should get you thinking.

Pray for the best and prep for the worst.

And with that, we have our daily limit of tinfoil. Looks like a better discussion for the disaster prep section as the gun discussion got sidetracked a long time ago.
