Well, I had no success hunting for whitetail this year. I was out for shotgun and bow seasons, saw a bunch of deer but they were out of range (mostly during bow season). I tried different stands, both on ground and in trees, different times of day, creeping through the bush, No Luck, plain and simple.

I'm looking for a few other CGNers that are in the same boat as me this year. No trophy pictures, no meat in the freezer, no mount on the wall.
Stupid tags are sitting on my work bench now, taunting me...

i saw only 3 deer this season and i usealy see many more than that first year in 6 years i dont harvest and were i hunt thats is very unusual.but at least i got to go out and play.

I did connect, but it was close.
When I don't, and that's not often anymore, I sit back, and reflect on the good time I had hunting anyway. The deer I saw, the things they did that might be to my advantage to remember, and what I learned, from talking to them with the calls.
Hunting for me, isn't about the killing, it's a total experience. Getting one, is a bonus.

Same here...didn't shoot one. :( But I will reflect on the observations I have made this fall, and put them to use next year.
I usually set a personal goal as to the size of deer I want to shoot...this year it was a 150 B&C. I know he is there...but I never saw
him while I was hunting. Oh well, next year he will be bigger. :D

It was a great year...get out there NOW and find those rub-lines, bedding areas, and old scrapes.:)

And snag that road-kill. :p

I passed on a few & shot nothing. This I don't mind, I now look for spikes (they will never become large racked big boys) or a dry doe. I injoy pushing for the noobys and young hunters, mostly kids of hunting partners. Getting out is the name of the game IMHO.

Yup, I was skunked this year too, didn't have a lot of time to get out and I wasn't seeing the normally high number of deer that I normally do in my area. Oh well, had the kids out for a few trips and I have some bear roasts to go with the deer track soup!

I count myself lucky.

I got out for two days at the beginning of the hunting season, connected on a small doe, then spent the rest of the season laid up.

Kinda glad I hadn't bought all the tags I was considering buying.

I've got near enough unused tags, that I could consider wallpapering my safe with them. They were all worth the money and time spent on them, though!

Cheers
Trev

Only went out three times. My 6 year old came with me. Life is all about rasing a 2 year old and 6 year old and hunting and shooting is all but a memory at this point. We saw numerous does and a few dink deer but i wanted something bigger than last year and rattling and calling with a chatty 6 year old is pretty tuff. Tags are on my reloading bench. Things wil get easier as they get older and i will get my time back in the bush.

Filled 2 of my 3 tags this year. Would have had a nice 8 pointer in Nov., if it wasn't for a twig, half as big around as my pinky finger. Bolt didn't come even close, was redirected up at about a 15 degree angle and lodged in a dead tree. Upset.......naw.....live and learn. I had spotted the biggest Buck I have ever seen with my own eyes, on one of the properties that I hunt. Closest I ever got to him was a couple days before Christmas. I had a clear shot, but he was 45- 50 yards away, well out of my comfort zone....30 yards is my maximum. Hopefully I will meet up with him again next year.:D

I know how you feel. I too didn't shoot the deer I wanted, had to shoot a small wounded spiker instead of the 12 pointer I had my tag reserved for. My Uncle saw him a few days ago, so hopefully he will make it through the long Winter, & be waiting for me next Fall. Maybe he will grow another couple of points.

My husband didn't get one, but I managed to get a fawn, so at least we have some venison in the freezer this year. I did see a few, but they were either out of range or on property I didn't have permission to hunt.
