side by side comparo Tokarev TT33 and Norinco M213 (PICS warning)

Hi folks,

From some comments in the "$99 pistol" thread, I thought I'd start a thread about comparing the 9mm Norinco M213 and the original Tokarev TT33 (7.62 x 25). In the first picture, Tok on the bottom.

On a second M213 I have, I did some work. Besides lots of smoothing rough spots (edges etc), I removed the loop on the left side (I'm left handed and that loop digs itself in the palm - try it), removed the spacer in the mag well and got four new mags to fit in it.

Yup, spacer in the mag; same length. I removed the spacer in the mag well only in one of the Norcs, the other one is still "intact".

Overall they appear to be pretty comparable from the outside.

Any chance of some strip down internal pictures? Comparison of racking and trigger feel? Or am I just jumping the gun here and should sit patiently until you're done?

Good job Lou - thanks for sharing. I might remove the loop on mine as well. It's only there to attach to a belt and won't be used.

Start practicing - we're going to have a "Tokarev shoot out" after our next Rifle Range cleanup in early May.

You removed the loop on your M213? How are you going to use your chinese keyring now? Whatever, you can still shoot the Tokarev

BCR, I didn't take pics of the guts, I'll try to do this next time I strip it. I have to say I still have a few issues with one or two mags not sliding out freely (with the Norcs, not the Tok), but I'm really not familiar with the interal workings and am unsure on how to fix this...

Lou, if it was me I'd strip the gun dow to the frame with as little still in it as possible. Then I'd test the slides in the frame and see if I could find where it's binding. One trick for this would be a slip of printer paper that you use as a test shim to see where it suddenly gets tight. Slide the magazine in and out a number of times and look for a scuff in the finish and try to match that up with a possible high spot in the frame or on the spacer. If there's nothing obvious you can try a narrow slip of paper along the back and side faces of the magazine in turn to see which place the paper suddenly makes things get very tight. A bit of back and forth and trial runs and you should be able to find the issue. From there depending on what the issue is a solution should become fairly obvious.

One thing is that if you have one magazine that works well then the dimensions of the sticking magazines become suspect. But if they all are sticky then the frame would appear to be the guilty party.

Got spare mags from "Lever Arms" in Vancouver - note that the spacer in the pistol's mag well has to be removed since these new mags have a spacer in them, whereas the ones that came with the Norinco didn't.

Is this the Lever Arms mag? And if so does it come with that thing on the end. I think its called a mag extension? Sorry for all the questions but I do appreciate the answers
