Side Charging Handle for AR-15 Platform

Watching this video reminded me of the advantage T97 & Tavor bullpup rifles have over most AR 15 type rifles.

Having owned both platform rifles, I can clearly see the a bit of a difference the side charging handle vs rear charging handle of most AR 15 platform we have gotten so used to.

To me the real advantage of an AR over a bullpup is in the magazine reload.

But thats just my personal preference.
 
Oh, I totally agree with you on that M10.
I am not saying bullpups are better than AR platform at all.

I am merely agreeing with Demolition Ranch's (youtube posting) review, which made me realize that the side charging handle on bullpups to be an alternative option to use than AR rear charging handle, specially in FTF & FTE situations. Not a big deal, but a slightly difference on use.

The rear charging handle on ARs doesn't bother me greatly but one point he made did resonate with me: a scope can interfere with you charging an AR.

I had to move my scope forward to make charging the rifle easier but in the process I find it a little more difficult to get a fast sight picture through the optic now. A side charging handle would eliminate that problem.

That said, as problems go it's not a huge one. I'm not a 3-gunner or an operator operating operationally...just a range rat.
 
Mmmm yes I have been thinking of building a nice slick 3 gun AR based on a Gibbz side charging upper (appears to be available for export through brownells...) but I haven't decided what lower to use just yet haha...
