Do you recommend a side saddle? I like the look and also the functionality of it, but does it get in the way at all?
I was looking at the 6 shot Mesa Tactical one, unless someone can recommend another one.

My 590a1 came with a 6 shot Mesa saddle when I bought it off the EE forum. It looks and feels really solid and it holds the shells tightly, but they come out smooth when you pull them. I haven't found it to get in the way at all, but it does add weight when fully loaded. I would definitely put a Mesa sidesaddle on another shotgun if/when I get one.

Cool thanks, I'm torn between getting the 8 over the 6. I got the 20" so it holds 8+1, it would be kind of impractical to get the 6. I'm worried the 8 will be too long and not look as good.

I have the Mesa tactical 6 shot on my 590a1 spx and really like it. The only pain is you need a hex wrench to fully disassemble but it's not bad. A friend had the 8 but it looked to bulky in my opinion. The 8 also limits any stock and fore grip options

I put a mesa 6 round side saddle on my M590 Blackwater. Couldn't be more happier. 8+1+6 (Side Saddle) + 4 (Speedfeed Stock) = 19 immediate rounds ready to go.

I have 2 Mesas on my 2 590A1's and I think the tac star plastic one is just as good and cheaper. I have yet to try out the Velcro side saddles, but the price and ability to hold extra shells as well as rip off and add a new saddle intrigues me.

I seen a TacStar in person the other day and it looked just as good. It's a lot cheaper for sure. I might try out that one instead of the Mesa.

I think they are bulky and add un needed weight to the shotgun. I like my shotgun as minimal as possible.

I really don't need the shells on the gun itself, it looks cool, but is really not practical. A shotgun shell holding belt across your chest or a small shell holder on your belt IMHO is a better choice.

I am of the same mindset.

I have the tacstar and is very consistent in terms of it's ability to hold the shell. They don't bind when dirty or gritty and are not sensitive to cold weather like some reports I have read about the Mesa rubber bits. Price wise, you really cannot argue.

For myself, I searched for along time for a local vendor for the Elastic carriers. They offer so much more per dollar than anything else. Some of the newer gen velcro carriers have a plastic saddle now but it still adds weight to the receiver.

Light weight, adds little to no discernible weight shift to your firearm (until you load it up)
Collapse in on themselves when removing lowering it's profile
Flexible mounting options, anywhere you can stick the velcro, you can add some shells
Repeatable and reliable shell retention
And the most important part: price, these things are very cheap.

I made this video some time ago while I was testing the shell retention (I admit I missed quite a few shots, but I wanted to test it hard) I am at the end anchoring the line

I had 4 on the forend and a 6 shell on the side.

Nothing fell out :)

S&J Hardware Velcro Side Saddle (forgive me for the floral print background). The reason you see the side saddle lifting up is because I cut the loop/adhesive side too short.

Not to put it down or anything, but the velcro look isn't for me. I like the nice clean look of the Mesa or TacStar. But hey, everyone's different or else all of them would look the same :)
I got my Mesa Tac one today and it's a beauty.
