I recently purchased a used T/C Seneca sidelock percussion .45cal and would like to refinish the stock. I have removed and polished all the brass fittings but I need to remove the hammer and the two opposite plates. The hammer has a screwhead as does and the opposite plate. Can I remover these two screws & hammer without things going spriunggg (you know that sound!) along with bits & pieces flying all over the place. Hoping someone can help; Ken

I think your posting is a bit ambiguous; nessy's answer is appropriate for removing the lock which is what I think you are asking. The screw in the hammer goes into the tumbler (which connects it with the mainspring) and removing that screw allows the hammer alone to be removed and leaves the lock plate in the gun. Relative to what I think your original question was, the internal components should all remain attached to the side plate when you remove the lock screws and these are located on the off side of the gun. Some guns by the way use only one screw.

Before you do anything and just to be safe...put the hammer to half ####, it will make it a whole lot easier to remove. If I remember the T/C guns have coil mainsprings so you may not have as much trouble as you would witha leaf mainspring.
Be very careful not to chip out any wood or damage the threads going into the lockplate.
