If I am not mistaken, Sierra bullets are a standard cup-and-core bullet (not bonded, ect) but are considered one of the better cup-and-core bullets. They should do fine for everything but the biggest of deer I would think.

Yeah thanks Suther.

theres not a great deal of info out there on this projectile but you're spot on regarding the Cup an Core properties, however there is no Ring like a "Core lokt" or a "inter lock" bullet, which to my understanding , helped the bullet not open all the way like a banana peel..
I did see a Googled photo of the Sanded down Sierra Pro hunter, an it looks pretty good but not a real huge Jacket thickness..

I guess I just need to load an try , start on the little Deers an see how it performs on solid Bucks before I move into shooting the Sambar with them... im thinking it will be borderline, especially seeing as I ditched the 139gr Hornady inter locks after I hit bone an lost an animal to a broken leg...... Shot placement is the KEY here I know, so with that in mind I wouldn't mind punching the Ribs out on big deer with chosen shos rather than rushed opportunist shots.

from what I read most these 120s stayed inside animals so I was hopin that some CGNers had tried an recovered one or two :)

I used the 120 Sierra Pro Hunter in a Ruger M77 MKII in 7X57 mauser a few years back, it was a good accurate bullet that was easy to load for. I don't remember the exact load, but it wasn't hot, thats not really my style. I shot a few coyotes with it and it was very destructive, the only bullet I recovered weighed less than 30 grains, so for me it is not a deer bullet. I switched to the 120 Partition which I "think" is a better bullet, but I sold the rifle before I killed anything with that bullet.

I used the 120 sierras pro hunters for load development and use the TSX 120s for hunting in a 7-08 over 43.0gr Varget. Under 200m...the TSXs have been stellar on Mule Deer. I would not hesitate to use the sierra for deer in that chambering. The pro hunters would be on par with any flat base cup and core. Maybe a few tests on some REDs would be in order if that is your folley mate. MMMMM roo steak on the barbie with a ###X on the side. Bringing back some memories there.....

Sounds like you were in QLD mate HAHA, too bloody hot up there for this ol duck!

reds aplenty up there , I have a patch of them here but not many numbers.. few big heads.

I have a good population of fallow deer! soft deer especially the does.. that will be a good test , from there it will decide if I use it on more game or just trigger time on paper out to distance, which isn't a bad idea anyway although I have a fair few 139grs loaded up I want to rid for the cases..
