Hey

I just bought 100 gr hollow points in 6.5x55 Sierra Varminter and 140 gr Spitzers in 6.5x55 Sierra Gamekings.

I've never tried them but plan on loading some up soon. I was just wondering on peoples opinions on these rounds and if anyone has a good recipe for handloading them with RL22

thanks

I shot a mule deer @ 250 yards with the 6.5mm 140gr BTSP a number of years ago. Muzzle velocity was 2600 fps. Impact high on the shoulder, knocked him down in his tracks, had to put a finisher in him at close range. Both bullets stayed inside the deer, both retained about 30% of their weight. What a mess! They expand quick and kill great, but not the best choice if meat loss is a big concern.

Accurate bullets though :) It's why I chose them that year. Most groups had holes touching

I can't explain why this would have happened, i have never recovered a gameking from a animal. i have shot many deer with my 270 from 150-537 yds and all of them had a average size hole and amount of damage. But i do agree with the accuracy part, that is one of the main reasons i use them.

Most Sierra bullets are a bit fragile, IMHO. They are great for paper, but I want a better bullet for game, particularly at close range and high velocity. I echo todbartell's comments. Eagleye.

RL-22 will work well for the 140's. I have some 85's and use 4064 for that.

If you email sierra they will send you the data page with all weights for 6.5x55. I may still have it. PM me your email and Ill try and find it for you.

right, and you will be seating quite long in the M-96. I think I was around 3.1" inch when I was loading for one with the same bullet. You can do trial and error there to see what works best for you....I like to keep a certain minimum of neck tension.

As mentioned above the Gamekings are meant as a long range bullet that can open up reliably way out there and can be explosive at closer range.
