Sierra Game King HPBT any good?

I'm reading about them, but truth is a Lucked out on 3 boxes for a small fee of $35 a box, must be an old fella clearing out his stock...
Anyway,
270 , 140gr HPBT Game kings....

Im scared of the HP ... But I'm reading they are quite a tough bullet??

Any information please--

I use 55gr in 223 for coyotes. Extremely accurate. Extremely effective. I haven't had a coyote twitch since switching to them. They just drop. Only small pieces exit if anything. Im using a 16.5" barrel so I know im loosing velocity just never got around to chronographing the load

I use / have , the 55 gr in 223 and 22-250. Great and efficient and effective

Also the 180 gr GKs in 308s and my fathers 300 HH ….. 2 deer taken with my kimber , one close one far ( 250 yards ) boom flopped em. So i swear by them.

Shot placement though right ?

A friend shot a truck load of deer and moose with them out of his 270.
I have loaded tons in .284 and .30 , 160 and 165 respectively.
Love those bullets, excellent results on both deer and moose.

The Hollow Point Game Kings are a purpose built hunting bullet.

Your fears are pretty much from lack of knowledge.

I knew one family who shot a couple “ truck” loads of deer elk and moose with 165 grain GKHP 165gr .30’s outta Browning BLR’s back in the day… they loved them.

Here’s what Sierra writes about the 140/270 offering.

“The 140 grain #1835 Hollow Point Boat Tail bullet is intended for medium and heavier game at shorter ranges. It is a tough bullet, allowing higher impact velocities with good expansion at shorter ranges. It also delivers good long-range performance on heavier game from the 270 Winchester and magnum rifles in 270 caliber and is highly accurate”

the point or the lack of a point on a bullet has nothing to do with the performance of a bullet it is simply to protect the bullet when feeding / chambering a round .
the construction of the bullets jacket is what controls the exspanssion of the bullet

Try shooting wet pile of magazine, taped into a brick and see if the jacket separate from the core.
Id figure game kings would hold together at 50yards

Sounds Mixed online thru the years but as Lefty #### says, It's my lack of knowledge on this Bullet or Sierra in general that made me Question them.

Deep diving into forumboards and Google searches, some Love some Not so.

Some guys Want the bullet to fragment, some want it to hold together, some want a complete pass through and some don't
All I want my bullet to do is be accurate and anchor game reliably , the HPBT Game King does both in spades!

I’ve used quite a few of of the 165 30 cals. Quite accurate, and if anything sticfer than a regular Gameking. That aside, that isn’t why I use them.

That sawed off tip plays very with short mags and long or worn long throats. I’ve got a little Anschutz 308 that was a tack-driver with most bullets when it was fresh, and eventually turned somewhere between average and ho-hum with age. With the BTHP Gameking I’m back on the lands with a mile of mag left and the magic came back. I can probably keep playing with that rifle for the forseeble future just because of that bullet change. Thats worth something.

as i assumed, its an older guy selling up his stashes- so they are 1997 purchased bullets
hence the price, im glad he hasnt looked online at any projectile sale sites lately!!

im now looking forward to using this bullet a bit

Yep, been talking with him some more.
He's had 2x 270s only shot targets but sold em.

I'm trying to find a few extra $$$ to buy him out haha

One thing I’ve learned is that if they have a lot, buy a lot. If they have a little buy it all. It works at so many levels. It’s surprisingly easy to buy out local gunstores, but cities and provinces aren’t that much harder sometimes. I’m a slow learner but but learned from a master. A phrase that he taught me that has saved a lot of money and on balance made me money is pretty easy to remember. “Can I have it all?” Best to practice in a mirror first and work on your poker face. Prices drop like a whore’s knickers
