My dad has been shooting 180gr winchester cxp2 out of his .308 and he likes how they perform on deer. I have been reloading and have a box of 180gr sierra game king sp bt bullets. Would these 2 bullets preform similar?

I haven't used the CXP2 so a direct comparison I can't provide, although I have plenty of experience with the SGK. They are a great bullet with old technology, they aren't like the new bonded core bullets(Accubond and Interbond) however they are very accurate, easy to load for and take down game very well without too much damage. You may not get the weight retention of some of the newer bonded core or solid Barnes type bullets but they still do the job quite well. I have used them in .264 Win Mag, .308 Win, .300 Win Mag, .300 Wby Mag and .338 Lapua all with excellent results, use them with confidence even at long range.

They will perform fine out of that .308. I use 130gr in my .270win and knock moose, elk and deer down with it no problem. Where I started getting the problems was when I used 150gr in my 300wsm, it did the job but I had entrance no exit but only found little bits and pieces of bullet. I figure for that bullet weight and not bonded it exploded when it made contact. So I only use the Sierra game king in my .270 now.

I've used SGK for years in froms from .277 to .375 and they work very well.

My only complaint about them is they have been going up in price faster than their counterparts made by speer and hornady, so I've been using them less lately.

I don't know about that weight class but the 120ish .257 both explode basically on contact. All animals died on the spot with no exit. Deer and bear. I don't reloaad for my 308 or 300 wm so I can't give a better response
