im looking for load data for 117g sierra boattail gamekings for a 25-06,i have imr4831 for a powder or 4064 can anyone share there data please :) i dont have a sierra load book
 
i normaly use hodgson online but they dont have a load for sierra :( thank you pitbull,can i ask where u found that info,do u have the book or is there an online spot that deals with sierra
 
i managed to find a old volume of sierra at my dads and it lists the h4831 with min 50 to max 53.1g and those loads cover sierra bullets from 117-120g for 25-06 :)

correct me if im wrong.....but h4831 is exact same powder as h4831sc except the powder is just cutt shorter, so i can use h4831 with the same load data as the h4831sc?

the hodgson site does have alot of data for 117g with the h4831 but nothing on a sierra bullet
 
I.ve used 50 grs of imr 4831 with the 117 gr Sierra Game King and a CCi250 in my 25/06 for years. Great accuracy and good velocity.
 
nice,iv found acouple loads in some older data books on the 117 sierra with h4831, and they are all diffrent,kinda confusing how it could vary as much as it does,but i will start out with a min load and slowly work up from there

have any of you guys done any resize on 30-06 cases fto 25-06
 
From the Sierra manual.
Same loading for both 117's and the 120 grain.

Accuracy Load: RE-22/ 50.5grs. 3100fps/ 2561ft. lbs.
Hunting Load: IMR-4831/ 50.9grs. 3100fps/ 2561ft. lbs.

Hodgdon says H4831 is the same as the SC version. It is only done for metering in a measure. That said, some find the SC a bit faster burning. Be cautious and start with a bit lower load of SC and work your way up.

Loads are not bullet manufacturer specific. A 117 grain bullet is a 117 grain bullet. It does not matter if Berger, Sierra, Hornady, or Nosler make it. In fact Sierra provides some of the less exact load data, and lumps bullets of slightly different weights together and one give one load for them all.
 
I.ve made 25/06 brass many times from 30/06 cases, but as c-fbmi stated the necks can get pretty thick and you may have to turn the necks to have everything work good. The 270 win case is better only not as plentiful as 30/06 cases. At least where I live.
 
ok :) perfect,i dont plan to make my own brass from 30/06 pr 270 just thought id ask about it as it was brought up in a conversation i had the other day

thats good to know that both powders are the same,and i always start at min charge and work up from there

iv just noticed that noslers COAL might be diffrent from Sierra or speer some might have to be seated deeper cause the bullet maybe longer or shorter,so useing the same charge for a 117 speer with one COAL and loading a nosler with a diffrent COAL wont cause pressure issues

Technically it makes more sense to seat your bullet based on the distance from the bullet ogive (where the bullet starts to taper from full diameter) to the lands in the barrel. Those loading for accuracy may seat the bullet 5, 10, 15 or more thou from the lands, or even 10 thou into the lands. The issue is that long pointy bullets (low drag) tend to stick out a long way when you start to do that. So long that they may not fit in your magazine. So the COAL given in reloading guides is more often just the safe number that prevents the bullet from being too long for the magazine. It is not really a secret length to give you best accuracy. It is a reference to kind of cover their butt on safe pressures too.

Yes, changing the seating depth has an affect on pressure, but like 4831SC vs 4831, just start a little lower and don't make changes to seating depth when you are near max load. Here is an article from Berger about the different methods of adjusting seating depth.
