Howdy folks!

I am new to the reloading game and have noticed that Sierra seems to market there bullets at a comparatively low price to other manufacturers. This causes me to be somewhat skeptical of their quality in this day and age of "you get what you pay for".

I'm curious if anyone can comment on the terminal performance and inherent accuracy of these bullets?

My intent is for a cheaper bullet to learn and practice reloading with, plink, and hunting round. I know a lot of factors affect the terminal performance, and am not expecting unrealistic results from adverse conditions. I just want to make sure that what I'm loading can be used to efficiently and effectively take deer and moose sized game from appropriate calibres.

Thanks!

Game kings are on the same playing field as Hornady BTSP, or Speer BTSP. Very accurate bullets too. Excellent bullets and would not hesitate to take them hunting anything. I believe the SP(Pro Hunters) will hold up better than the BTSP versions as I have found the BTSP close up loose their cores before the SPs. Depending on the calibre and weight you will find they can have thicker jackets and hold up exceptionally well IMO.

Im a HUGE fan of the GK's. In dads 308 im pushing the 165gr SPBT and HPBT at 2750fps. Last year dad shot a whitetail doe running at him @150. the bullet entered the brisket made complety jelly outta the lungs and heart, travelled threw the length of the deer and came out just before the rear left hip pulling the intestines out with it. any deer has been DRT when hit and now dad used them for moose(although he has never had the chance to pull the trigger on one so no report on how they work on the heavier game is yet to be unknown). MY 7mm-08 is shooting hte 160's into excellent groups and hopefully ythis year will bag me a deer. My 338-06 is using the 215gr and its the most accurate bullet outta that gun as well. I would say use them... if they didnt work people wouldnt be using them and they wouldnt be for sale...... what i can say is the HPBT seem to be a big tougher then its same weighted brother BTSP..

Found one game king bullet after it took a bull moose. The bullet was found lying in the trailer, that we had just transported the 4 quarters in, at the local meat cooler.Looked text book (mushroomed perfect) in appearance and when we weighed it it held 98% of it's original 180 grains.Good bullets for sure!

Before Deer, Moose and Bear started wearing Kevlar, Gameking's took down thousands of them.

They are cheaper because they are not bonded, partitioned, space age tipped bullets where the company has spent millions plastering their images on glossy pages of the latest Deer Hunting magazines.

But now you have me thinking - our rifle season for Deer starts on Monday and all my reloads for my 243 have 85 grain Gameking's at the business end - maybe I should use something else. They have only killed every deer I have ever shot with them, but maybe there is something "better" :)

I've been using them for 20 years or so. Have killed probably 15-20 deer and lots of other critters. I've recovered quite a few, usually just under the hide on the opposite side. Weight retention has always been superb for a non bonded bullet. The deer all died quickly. You can also expect fantastic accuracy. I've had a few rifles that won't shoot "premium" bullets but will keep Sierras under 1" @ 100.

I have been using Sierra's for 35 years and they have taken moose and deer for me in a variety of calibers, they are accurate and put game down.
Nutin fancy they just work.

I shoot a 264 WM and the 140 grain Sierra GameKing works just fine on deer. For elk and moose, my preference is Nosler Partitions in 140 grain. They are not as accurate, but hold together better on bigger game. For target shooting, my preference is Berger.

Sierra's shoot well, and kill, but probably a bit messy. Similar to Nosler ballistic tips and Hornady Interlock BTSP/SST's --

I haven't shot anything other than targets, but my 30-06 seems to really like the 165 Sierra BTHP game kings for accuracy.

Same here. Very accurate in my .308s as well as in my 30-06s. They just shoot very consistently. Haven't tried the on game yet, but I would not hesitate to do so.

 OP I wondered the same thing. I'm a little gun shy on the rapid expanding options like the SST but if the prohunters and BTHPs are tougher then I'm going to give them more consideration for next year. Both of these have shot surprisingly well for us here. (Reloading has allowed my son and I to have more trigger time and develop ourselves into better shooters to make sure we do our part but would prefer a tougher less frangible bullet for hunting.) We've developed loads using another option but these Sierra offerings are showing too much promise to overlook.

Curious, have you used SST's and could you compare?

I'd like to know how that goes this year. We shoot 7/08's here.

Before Deer, Moose and Bear started wearing Kevlar, Gameking's took down thousands of them.

^^^lol. That's a bit of wisdom. Got caught up in that last year...just to be honest.

Sierra are my second favorite cup/core bullets, Speer Grand Slam being the first.

Grand Slams are on the list to try and are moving up the ladder since your post Hitzy.

Regards all,

Ron
