Sierra HPBTMK

Wholesale has a fixed shipping rate, I have never been charged extra for shipping a few hundred bullets with other stuff.

I wouldn't worry too much about the BC, but find out wich type shoots best at your desired range.

Oh ok, that might be useful when I start mass-reloading.
I ordered 100 SMK's for now, to see how my rifle likes them. I'm not what I have for primers or powder (the guy that's reloading with me is supplying that), and Federal brass. How do brass, primers and powder affect accuracy (if at all)? Also, would Federal brass be better to go with rather than Winchester?

I care about BC..with the lower speed I get from the short barrel the higher the better....I am using around 48Minutes to get to 1000Meters now...if I could get the higher and lighter BC bullet to go faster(168VLD at 2700FPS) over my 175SMK load my come ups will be less for the VLD it would be around 42/44 minutes and that is good and should do better in the wind too

Well with my 26" barrel, extra velocity isn't too big a problem for me :D:p.
I'm not gonna worry about BC too much yet; I'm gonna worry about getting reloading gear and getting on the range to see what she likes to eat first.

for your rifle I would start with Varget or reloader 15 with CCI BR2 primers

also Primers will/do effect your groups I like BR2's,and federal 210Match they will keep you SD/ES closer

Brass I use Lapua brass and Winchester, federal is good but the primer pockets tend to get loose a little faster then LAP or Win

start low and work up

CHRONY brand made here in Ontario.Check their website. They have specials on from time to time.Saw factory rebuilds with full warranty on sale.
A good basic start to chrony work and very portable. Also easy to get parts after you shoot it .Common own up everyone shoots their chrony at least once:bangHead:

When you get some of these loaded up where are you going to shoot? I have a chrony and always up for some shooting.
Seems we're all in the same boat as far as finding the Sierra's so far. Living on the north side of the border in a PITA sometimes. Granlund in Campbell river sells them but has not got his full order in yet. He has a pretty good selection of goods there compared to the south Island outfits. I picked up some Bergers and Amax's recently from him as well. I have heard that the bergers are a bit more fussy than the Sierra's.

Skullboy: Do you get them specially moly-coated? Why is that? Also, what BC do the 178 Amax bullets have?

Thanks,
-Rohann

I Moly-Coat the bullets myself. Moly lets me go longer without cleaning the bore and cuts down on copper fouling.I can go over 400 rounds with just pushing a dry patch through every 100 rounds or so.When you have to give a good cleaning it makes the job easier as well.I learned a few Moly tricks from the "belly gun" crowd.;)

The B.C. between the AMAX and 175 SMK are pretty close. My gun likes the Sierras, but tends to like the AMAXs just a little better. The AMAX are cheaper as well.

I have found that the Nosler 168gr Match bullets shoot better and are finished better the the Sierra 168s.Plus the Nosler are cheaper.

BUT, what my gun likes, yours may hate..........every rifle is different.

Also don't just bury your head in a book and look at numbers.Just because one bullet has a higher BC doesn't mean it will perform well in your rifle.

Book learning is one thing, real world experience is quite another.

When you start to test loads and change things, change only ONE thing at a time.Be it powder charge, primer, or case, but CHANGE ONLY ONE of the components. If you change more then one you will end up "chasing your tail" and not know which change caused what.;)

The 154's , like other VLD bullets such as the Bergers seem for the most part perform best when seat close to or on the lands. This is, as Jamie mentioned, a bugger with a mag fed tactical rifle. When I load the 154's they sit almost the entire length of my mags. They do load and feed but on occassion one hangs up, this would suck in a match. If I load them any shorter the groups open way up. Some of the best groups I have obtained out of my HS are with this bullet but loaded longer thus the rifle ends up a really nice single shot.

Based on what I have tried (178 Amak excluded as I have not tried them yet) the Sierras will be much more forgiving than a VLD type bullet while reloading.

On a side note, I think Berger has a line similar in design to the Sierras. A boat tail but slightly different than the VLD'S. I'm going to track down Joe and see if he has any to try.

If Joe ##### is out there reading this perhaps he could comment here?

Thanks for the replies.
Yeah I think I'll just stick with Sierra's for now then, until I figure out exactly what it is I'm doing. I'll keep all that in mind though, thanks a lot for the help!

HD: Actually, I'm thinking of getting my own primers and powder too, as I don't want to bother using up my Sierra's in a load I probably won't use again. What's the best place to get ahold of that in BC?

road warrior: Do they stock those components there?

-Rohann

I'll give 'em a call and see what they have in stock.
Hahaha that sounds like quite a bike ride, but unfortunately I can't do much with my stupid knee injury:p.

PH Mike: I should really get my license...I can at any time now.

I know of a source of Sierra 155 Palma for $300/1200, thats 25 cents each or $25/100 total taxes included picked up in Ottawa only, if anyone is interested let me know, nothing to do with my business.
