Sierra Match King .308 168 BTHP on deer or not?

I'm looking more into Federal Vital Shok 168 Sierra Game King for 308, but it seems nobody has them in stock. If you know who sells it, I don't mind to try them out for hunting season this year. What about Berger VLD 168 grain? Anyone has experience for using them on deer or mulie? Who has them in stock?

What would be a good all around bullet then? I currently target shoot with .308 178 bthp superformance and have been told those are not what I should be using for hunting. My rifle is kinda for both target shooting and hunting, but I would like to use the same bullet for both. Would the Superformance AMAX be better? And maybe even a lighter grain?

I'm in the same boat as you are. People say you should use the same ammo for both target and hunting. I'm in search for that all around ammo. I thought 308 is the the most popular rounds, there should be lots of selection and availability. Still searching ....

What about nosler 180gr spitzers? Sorry I am just thinking about getting in to reloading and was wondering if these would be decent as they have a little higher BC.

Likely just fine, but a tiny bit of BC won't make much of a difference to a deer. Last Rifle magazine I got had an interesting article on the obsession with ballistic coefficient and how it actually had very little bearing on the hunting world. Got me thinking that no matter what I fool around with, I really haven't found anything that kills a deer any better than good ol' 150 gr. Hornady interlocks in my 308. They're actually more than enough, I remember a doe quartering towards that the shot deflected off the inside of the rib cage and went from sternum to tailbone with enough energy left over to pile well into the tree behind her.

I'm sure dear won't notice any difference between different BC if it was shot in shorter distance. The last deer I shot was at 450 yards, but that was with my .300 wsm. I'm searching for the right hunting and target rounds for mid to long distance for .308. Most importantly, where can I buy them? Eventually I'll start handloading, but I just don't have the time to do that now.

Hey all, sorry to bump this thread again but I was curious if it is legal to hunt with Amax bullets in BC? I'm a little confused as to what the law/hunting regs are referring to when they say cannot hunt with jacketed bullets. Thanks for the info. Also let me know if this question would be better served in a different thread thanks.
