I'm new here, if this has come up before and been well addressed could someone find me the link, otherwise...

I've looked at this and obviously the GSG 1911 .22LR, been told that they are the exact same but GSG is cheaper. I've heard/seen lots of reports of issues with the GSG, but I like the 1911 in .22LR and am looking for my first pistol to shoot. I guess the question is, does any one know if the SIG is any better because it's got a different and more expensive name on it or am I going to run into the same issues that are out there on the GSG? I was looking at Questar, they say that they have factory trained armourers so am I getting a reliable gun from them if I purchase from them, I would hope that they are not selling a sub par item if there are known deficiencies!

This is actually my second choice in a firearm as i really want a P226 in .22LR but finding it is tough. I was told that there is a conversion kit on EE but I'm not approved to see those posts yet...

lastly, I know that this is almost a useless question as there are thousands of right answers available but if i went the P226/220 route and purchased a .22lr conversion, what caliber should I go with? Does it really matter? 9mm, .40, .45?

Thanks all, I know there is great advice out here, excited to see what pops up!

well the sig 1911 22 is the same gun as the GSG
i have a GSG that i bought back in Feb of this year
it has had all the issues that were a problem with the pistol looked at and fixed
i also did a lot of reading on the pistol and read about several problems with it
i soon discovered that all the issues i had read about were reported to the company and had been addressed
i have between 6500 and 7000 rounds through mine now and it is still running perfectly without 1 single issue
i have tried most of the 22 ammo out there and have found that it likes the federal 525 bulk packs best
i clean it every 400 to 500 rounds or after a range outing which about what i shoot through it each time i go to the range

this pistol is worth every penny you pay for it and more

as for the last part of your question well
i originally wanted a conversion kit for my SAM 1911A1 military 9MM
after a buying a conversion kit i then rethought the idea and returned it
and purchased the GSG 1911 22lr pistol as a separate weapon it was only a very small amount more than the conversion and is for me the perfect way to go now i can shoot what i want without having to field strip the weapon

as for ammo well if cost is an issue then the 9mm would be the way to go as it is much cheaper than either 40 or 45 if cost of a round is not an issue the shoot whatever caliber you like best

Thanks Spyderman.

So when you say:
it has had all the issues that were a problem with the pistol looked at and fixed
i also did a lot of reading on the pistol and read about several problems with it
i soon discovered that all the issues i had read about were reported to the company and had been addressed

are you meaning to say that you took it to someone after you bought it to address some known issues or that out of the box all of these had been taken care of and you have not had any issue ever with it?

no when i bought it i asked if it was old stock or if it had just arrived
mine had just arrived and when i field stripped it i found that everything people had mentioned as a problem had been fixed by the manufacturer before shipping
i have never had a problem with it from the first round that i fired
