I have been thinking of buying a Sig P226r lately, the 9mm version with night sights is around 1300$. Should I be better to buy the P226 classic 22lr at 699$ and the 9mm Conversion for 514$ at Questar? I know the 9mm conversion only has one magazine, but does the slide have night sights? If I purchase the 9mm conversion will it be as if I bought a standard P226, is the finish the same?

The X-Change kits do come with SIGLITE Night Sights are part of the package... it's a heck of a deal.

I't like getting a .22 conversion kit for nothing when you think about it!

Like you said, you get 2 pistols for the price of one! But is the 9mm conversion the same slide as I would get from buying a standard P226?

The slides look identical but from what we can tell there is a slight difference in the locking block dimension on the Classic 22 frame... we believe this was done to stop someone from using the X-Change kit (slide) on other frames... keeps the Classic 22 and the X-Change kits interchangeable between each other but not interchangable with a centerfire frame that was not part of the 2-Step program.

Except for that, we can't find any other difference. In theory a person should be able to change the locking block and that would eliminate the restriction, but we haven't tried doing it.

Regardless, the Classic 22 combined with the X-Change kit is a fantastic deal and the locking block difference has absolutely no impact unless you're looking soley to buy an X-Change kit for a previously purchased Centre-Fire pistol (not a Classic 22). SIG didn't want that happening... not at the specially reduced price they offered on the Classic 22 and X-Change kits... can't really blame them for that :)
