Sig 220 Question

I am in the market for a new .45 (tried a glock 21sf...great gun but learned I am NOT a glock guy and sold it) and am thinking about the Sig 220. I have a 226 9mm which I love. Is the 220 grip a lot wider then the 226? Also, is it as "flippy" as the 9mm or does it have more of the ".45 push"?

If not a 220 I am considering a kimber or STI 1911.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with me.

You can't go wrong with the P220, but why not expand your horizons if you already have a Sig P226?

You could try a HK USP/MK23

newshot,
Sig220 is an amazing handgun. I had a lot of handguns before I switched to rifles and .45 was my caliber of choice. I loved Sig220. The only handgun that was as accurate if not better was S&W 4506. It was a little bulky though. But there is a new generation slimmer version of it- 4566 right now on EE. I almost gave in and bought it, but I am a bit short on cash now. If you get 4566, you will not regret. My 4506 never had a single failure in the years that I have owned it. And I used even crappy cheap reloads. My friends Para-Ordnance could not even swallow a single one of those.

I love my P220 and I've been thinking about getting a P226 TB combat to match it.... with suppressor!

purevil, rub it in why don't you! lucky you, you got out of Canada! lol do you have a ccw in Las Vegas?

nice SIG though :) i just got the exact same one, except with 10 round mags, i feel much safer with 10, unlike you guys and your 30-40 rounds mags ;)

how many rounds does that mag hold?

i just received my SIG P226 Blackwater tactical in the mail today from Questar!! it came with 4 mags, 1 of them a 20 rounder!!! woohoo! but thank goodness it's only pinned to 10, i might have went postal if it wasn't pinned.

Congrats on getting out! enjoy!

For the record I was born and raised in ND, but Im a dual citizen and I went to school in Vancouver. How I found this place. :) I have a North Dakota CCW... Vegas is my second home and I keep my glock there. That mag is a 10 round, the p220 came with a 8 and one 10 rd mag. I bought a Benelli M4 today and at the shop they have a P226 combat with an AWC suppressor that you can submerge in water to keep it cool and quiet. Im thinking about going back and doing paperwork on the suppressor! Its been taking up to 6 months to approve so I may do it now and pick up the pistol when it clears.

are there restrictions on the number of rounds in a mag in ND ? or Vegas? paperwork for a suppressor? wow, didn't expect that. what is all the paperwork about?

The only restriction to mag limit is how much you can afford. ND is a very gun friendly state. I have 2 30 round mags binded together plus 10 to 12 various pmag and standard 30 rounders laying around. Some day I'd like to get a beta C 100rd mag for fun.

Paperwork for suppressors is pretty simple.... a little leg work is involved and patience. For suppressors and SBRs, its a $200 tax stamp, 2 finger print cards ($25), 2 passport photos ($10), fillout some paperwork, have your local PD or sheriffs office sign off on it, take it to the store and they submit it for you. For "any other" weapons like my super shorty shooty it was a $5 tax stamp and the rest is the same. Wait anywhere from 3 week to 6 months and if your approved pay for your suppressor and go out and shoot where ever your allowed to shoot and have fun. All paperwork must be carried with you, kinda like you PALs. But if its an over the counter gun purchase, no paperwork is required. All gun purchases that aren't class 3 take about 10 to 15 minutes if they have to call in for a background check. With my CCW they dont have to call it in so it takes 5 minutes, or about as long as it takes for the credit card to get approved. :D

There are no restricted/prohib/non prohibs in ND. You can shoot whatever you want as long as you have permission from the land owners and obviously if its safe to do so. Day or night. I believe you can even hunt at night with a suppressor, but dont quote me on that, day hunting is fine.

Please excuse any spelling or grammatical errors im typing in a hurry right now because Im working at the sametime and people keep distracting me.... i'll proof read it later. LOL

wow, that's amazing, i can't even imagine what that would be like. so you can take any of your firearms on crown land (don't know what they call it there) and shoot? without being arrested?

well there are obvious areas your not allowed to be on. Parks, city limits, etc etc. But if its an open field and its not posted by the land owner, and you have safe distances from buildings and homes... then yes you can shoot there. I usually have a few spots near by that I frequent in the summer. At worst you'd maybe get a ticket. I've gotten a warning from sheriffs that the land owner doesn't allow shooting on his land, but since it wasn't posted I was told to leave without a fine, but I've never been arrested or fined.

excellent! would love to have that freedom to just go out in a field and shoot some "real" targets, other than paper :)

back to the sigs! here are a few pics of my new sigs which just arrived today :)
oh ya and my new knife ! my first quality knife, i've had plenty of dollar store knives lol

Shooting in AZ, on BLM land was amazing!

My cousin checked in his handguns in Cali and we flew on plane to Tucson. First place we hit was BLM land. Didn't know if night shooting was allowed, but area was littered with brass. We were so excited and shot till 2-3am the first night with high beams on.

Long story short, did not see a single soul and 2nd night, had run in with illegals and AZ police on right behind them while in the dark. In the morning, police spoke to us and asked what we were doing. Told the truth - camping and target shooting. Left over ammo left on hood from previous night with 1 or 2 empty cans of beer. I had a glock 19 sitting near camp fire and I was holding a can of beer while all this happened. Obviously, didn't shoot. Place was swarming with cops and a helicopter. Before police went back to their business, he just said don't shoot until everything was cleared. LOL
