Hello,
I have a SIG P220 in .45Auto.
It shoots great, very low recoil. never jams.

The return spring is very heavy though and makes racking the slide very heavy compared to any other handgun I own. My gf can't rack it.

Anybody change out their P220 spring for a lighter one? Any negative impact on the frame/slide.

I like to keep my handguns stock but this spring is a bit unreasonable.

thanks :)

You can buy lighter springs from Wolff Springs, but your frame will take a bit more of a beating unless you shoot lighter loads. I've only ever put in heavier springs in my guns...

Don't have any experience with the P220, but in general, going to a lighter spring would accelerate wear and tear of the pistol, in addition to increasing perceived recoil. The general rule of thumb is that you use as heavy a spring as you can without compromising reliability.

Also keep in mind that the P220 was originally designed as a 9mm pistol, so perhaps the heavier spring is necessary to handle the increased recoil impulse of the .45 round. If your gun came from the factory with a heavy spring, I personally would not downgrade to a lighter one.

This might be a good excuse to get anothe gun that's easier to rack.

haha,
I think I've already used up all my excuses.

thanks for the input guys. I can use it fine the way it is, she'll have to use one of the others I guess.
