I found that standard velocity did not work the slide but hi vel did.

BUT - gun is new, not broken in and slide was not lubed at all.

Would not be surprised if lube helped it work with stnd vel.
 
lube the slide and even canada tire stuff will work. the high velocity stuff is fun and loud but my 226 works great with cheap stuff and cheap is why we shoot our .22 instead of our .45s!!!
 
Mines shoots anything, even crappy Winchester Wildcat sold for like 1.99 for 50 at crappytire (which leaves a mess in your pistol BTW).

I personnaly prefer Federal Champion HP 36gr.

Edit: I lube my slide with Slide Glide lite.
 
The "best" ammo is what shoots best in your particular pistol. After it is broken in, try a number of dfferent kinds of ammo and see if any of them shoot perticularly well.

With guns in general, and especially 22s, a gun will be terrible with some kinds of ammo and much better with others. Once you know the severl kinds it shoots well with, then you can consider cost and cleanliness.

My Ruger 22 pistol does best with Winchester T22.
