Sig 226 and the Glock 17. Whats the difference?

what's the difference? more like what do they have in common? other than being handguns not much ;) Sig is a good gun but a bit pricy these days, overpriced even! there was a time when they were almost the same price.
 
The difference is about $500. One thing I will say for the Glock is that it is chosen as the rental gun at a shooting school that routinely puts 10,000 rounds a year through each handgun. The SafeAction is a big part of this, - the manual of arms is simple enough for rank novices - but a large portion of their cadre carries Glocks as well, and some of them have packed heaters for decades, and personally train extensively at the school.

I think Glocks look like lightweight canoe anchors - you wouldn't drop a Colt blueing job in the water, would you? - but I find I can shoot them very well. (That last is a relative term - very well for me!)

I tried them both before I bought and knew immediately which one was the best fit for me. I bought the Sig226. May be different for you, though. What I know for sure is that buying on price alone is not always a good thing.

I would say the G17 is probably the cheapest reliable name-brand pistol on the market.......compete and be competitive with both? Of course! ...Some people drive a Civic and they're happy. Other prefer BMW...

I like my G17, cause its reliable and shoots well. The Sig does the same but just feels a whole lot better with recoil and the over-all solidness. Both triggers are stock but will work on the G17 shortly.
Personally, I would get the G17 first, and once you shoot and figure it out in stock form, you will be ready to appreciate why a stock Sig is $600 more.

i have - in 45ACP, a wilson CQB, 2 kimbers - one tactical entry, one gold combat, a colt, and a SIG 226.

i shoot the 1911's - and my friends shoot the 9mm sig. i like my friends.

my friends are worth $500. (sometimes they shoot the 1911's too)

Like I say, once you master a 1911 in .45 acp, there is no turning back!!!!!

Nice pistol. I have the same model (Elite Stainless), only I've replaced the wood grips for crimson trace grips and have a Surefire X300 on the rail. When loaded, it weighs almost as much as 2 glocks (3.6 pounds) :dancingbanana:
 
I have a SIG X-Five and a SIG P-226 Equinox. I also have a S&W Performance Centre V-comp. I like fine things and that goes for almost everything. My Nikon takes great photos but for many so do $300.00 compacts. Money is a big issue. Pick up these items, look at the craftsmanship and design. Pretend that money means nothing and you will not likely ask the question again. But please don't take this as a knock against the Glock. There are thousands of them out there and 1000's of happy owners. I would not want to argue against that kind of success.
 
Just take a look at youtube on how to strip them down fully and get them back together.
Takes 10 min to get the glock fully disassembled and assembled back, you will spend an good 40 min to do the same with a SIG (may take a way longer if you will have to get under the table to find the SIG self propelling small springs and parts, o yeah, and you have to get a new roll pin from sigarms each time you decide to take your firing pin out for cleaning, or so do SIGARMS recommends)
Glock parts are super easy to find in Canada and US, they are on ebay and bunch of online stores will ship them here and they costs cents
Try to find something for Sig.. GOOD LUCK.
If someone tells that Sig has good trigger...don't believe it, but try it yourself.
Yes, Sig does feet hand better, but if here is a war tomorrow I will take my Glock with me.
Glock finish way wear and scratch resistant then SIG. Sig is more accurate then Glock and you can shoot lead in SIG with no problem but in Glock you will have to scab barrel out to get the lead out.
If I have to make a choice I would go with a Glock. Glock is a tool, Sig is something to impress the friends with and have fun with it on the range.
 
i had a sig 228. i thought i'd be a cool guy and trade it in for the gen III g17. In hindsight I should of stuck with the 228 or got a 226

If these similar to you, I can recommend a good optometrist. These two are just about as similar as an AR and an AK47.

I'd have to agree 100% with that. I own both a Glock 17 and a Sig 226R. Both 9mm, both feel great, no problems with either of them ever. My issue is actually shooting them.

I actually prefer the heavier SIG as opposed to my Glock. Recoil seems to be a lot less in the SIG for a little better control and faster target acquisition.

I love them both but if I were to part with one, which I'm considering, I'd get rid of the Glock.
