Hello,

I have read some of the threads on here for the Blackwater, but many are fairly old. I am thinking about purchasing it and I am just wondering if there are any Blackwater users out there who are able to help assist me in making an informed decision. I love the 226 design but don't just want a plainish looking one, I want something with just a touch of Bling (grey/woodgrips). I was thinking stainless (not 2-tone) and understand that they might not be making them anymore, though they do show up some of the American web-sites, which is why I am thinking Blackwater. I have also been talking with a few guys I know who spend a fair amount of time at the indoor range and they suggested night sights, also helping me to lean toward the Blackwater as well. I am not sure about the nitron finish, but from what I can gather it is to help protect from holster wear (this could be relavant for me). Could someone please elaborate on the nitron finish .

I have been researching Sigs for awhile now and still want one. I have found that a few dealers have reduced the number of mags offered, 2 instead of 5, and that some prices still seem a bit high when compared to ther dealers as well. I see that Wolverine has the Blackwater for $1235, fair price to me I think (e.g. 1032 in Great Falls Montanta + 295 for Questar's fee = 1327), so I am looking more feedback on the pistol itself, but will not be upset if someone suggests a place that has them on for cheaper :). Looking forward to somefeedback, until then cheers,

Brent

I bought a SIG P226 Blackwater Edition for about 1500 from P & D in Edmonton. It came with 5 mags (which i found to be a real good deal cause I did some pistol training where 5 mags came in handy) The blackwater edition I purchased has the night sights and I do not regret getting them. I am very happy with my purchase.
Hope this helps you make a decision.

It's nice to see prices for the Blackwater have come down. I used to see them listed for as much as $1500.00 up here. It's a good deal if you get all 5 mags otherwise its just a Nitron 226 with thick grips and Blackwater logos. The grips look good but a lot of people end up taking them off because they are uncomfortable. If you have large hands it might not be a problem but you will probably want to install a "short" trigger.

If the Blackwater only comes with two mags it's still a good deal from Wolverine but check and see if it ships with 5. If you need extra mags (and you do) check with them or TSE but do yourself a favour and get MecGar 10 rounders in stainless. I bought 10 for my stainless P226R from MecGar directly for less than $30 each.

It might be just me but the only difference I see between the blackwater and regular P226R is front serations and logo on the slide, night sights, and wood grips that honestly don't look that much better(IMHO) from the standard plastic grips. These wood grips will be thicker and might not be what you expect, especially if really like the feel of the standards plastic grips. Don't get me wrong it's a nice choice but I don't see that value or uniqueness.
As far as the nitron finish, this is standard fare for all new sigs unless you go natural stainless. It's certainly more durable than the old "blued" finish

Front serrations on the Blackwater are not of any real use, same for the logo. I don't like my 226 plastic grips and had to lightly sand some of the sharp edges. I would prefer some smooth wood ones. I do like that mine is all stainless and real easy to keep clean. I replaced the stock sights with Tru-Glow fibre optic but haven't found them that great except in bright light so I'm changing back.

If Wolverine is selling the solid floor plate MecGars for that price jump on it. I can't believe how much better they are in comparison to the the stock Sig mags made in Germany which sell for more than double the $$

Yup, exact same one,
Ordered them 2 weeks ago, got them on friday 27.49$ I think!
A real deal

I used to have P226ST (stainless) and also shot the Blackwater; I liked mine better and so did the owner of the blackwater...

SIg is still making all steel P226 they just call it Elite model (with a beavertail).

btw those wood grips might look nice but they make the grio quite FAT! So unless you find P226 with plastic grips on the small side you probably won't like the feel of the blackwater grips ;)

Thanks so much for the input, think I might go for the Blackwater, but still keeping my eyes open for NIB 226 Stainless with night sights. Will keep everyone posted, thanks again, cheers,

Brent

Funny cause I was just talking about this with someone on the weekend. He said that when Blackwater first ordered the custom gun it was done the way they wanted it and they told SIG that they werent allowed to sell it to anyone but them. So SIG decided to make the Equinox with a few colour changes... He said all the guns are the same (with slight variances, but nothing of any value)... in the end they are both just fancy regular 226/229's.

I like the look of the Equinox (was holding one on the weekend) but did find dthe grips a little bulky... made it a bit harder to reach the decocker and just didnt feel as nice as the regular 229 that I was holding too.

We were also talking about the slight lip that is at the top of the shoulder of the 229. It tends to push your hand down a bit and makes the 229 boarderline uncomfortable... but that same gun in the DAK Stainless model has the lip removed and feels great. I am leaning towards a 229... regular or Equinox and change the grips to something custom for a better feel.

I havent had a chance to shoot one yet, but everyone says they are nice... and they feel the best IMO

Wolverine has/had the 'Made in Germany' Sig 226 Mags for 35$

I was shopping around unable to locate anyone who had the Mec-gar mags in-stock (3+ Month Wait). Wolverine shocked the #### outta me when they a) the price ($30 - 60 less then every where else) and b) they had enough in stock to fill my order.

4 Days later they were in my mailbox.

I'm a happy man with that Wolverine.

If you like the Sig mags that's good. After using the MecGar I couldn't go back and got them direct by phone from Mecgar in less than a week to my door.
