Sig 226 ELITE - Worth the extra money?

So, a question... anybody buy the skinnier "short trigger" for their SIG. Notice any difference?[/QUOTE]

Ya, I bought a short trigger, its really just a "thin trigger". Ive had it on a couple of my 226s that have different grips, and you can certanly notice a difference. But Ive decided it wasnt for me so Ive just gone back to the standard trigger.

Hey no problem.. I didn't understand that it was two different things until I investigated this a bit myself.

Not to hijack another thread with complaining about Brownells... but, up until a few months ago you could order the short trigger trigger for your SIG from Brownells. I'm not sure about all brands of gun parts, but SIG parts orders to Canada are definately being rejected right now... and have been since at least early September. I just tried it again a few days ago to see if this export certificate situation had been sorted out, but no.

Numrich is still shipping under $100US gun parts orders to Canada, but they don't list the short triggers on their site.

hey ghostie, i did actually get one for my 226, infact i want to throw the fact that after my "problem" with brownells i talked to shane at reliable. and he had one left and saved my day. although i havent had a chance to put it in yet. however a friend has one on his refurb early 90s 226 and its night and day difference to mine. and i dont have small hands i just preffer it. it gives your hand a totally different grip, makes DA so much better.

ps i dont know why numrich has every part for sigs but no short trigger.

It really improved my grip on my 229. I'm not sure if I have small or just average hands, but it made a huge difference to my comfort level with the gun.

I just bought a short trigger for my P226 from The Shooting Edge in Calgary. It was $40 plus shipping. Installed it last night in about 15 minutes. It makes quite a difference, especially with the wood grips on my Blackwater. My P220 came with the short trigger so I already knew I would like it.

Interesting.

As for Brownell's, I got a letter from them a while ago when I tried to order some Sig parts saying they weren't shipping to Canada right now. (Which sucks... of course the $100 limit also sucks)

Brownells said they wouldn't ship to Canada if the manufacturer wasn't AECA registered, which sounds like total BS to me, because some stuff doesn't require AECA registration (like grips, springs, pins, screws).

The limit on exports to Canada (only) was raised to $500 a couple of years ago but I'm not sure if that provision is still in effect as it was in a Budget Act.

Anyway, SRT - yes it provides a shorter trigger reset, which does you no good at all because the US-made SIG-Sauer sears are rougher than a bear's ass.

Given the choice between my German-tuned Sauer-made sear from my old P226 Sport and a mass produced POS from New Hampshire, I know which I prefer.

There is however no longer a P226ST so the Elite is your only option if you want one with a stainless steel frame (AFAIK, they keep pissing out "guns of the month" so there may be something I've missed.)

At the very least if you buy one invest in some Wolff springs, and finding a gunsmith who can work on the action is a good idea. Unfortunately however the angle of the sear is set to "lawyer-proof" so the only way to sort that out is to have someone regrind the angle and heat treat it, which (a) is very difficult and most gunsmiths can't do it properly or (b) costs $$$.
