Wondering if anyone could help with a few questions?

Does anyone use a 226 for IPSC?

Is the 226 always chambered in 9mm or do they come in different calibres?

Does the 220 come in 9mm?

Is the Sig 229 prohib?

Thanks alot,

Scott.

I use a Sig 226 Stainless in 9mm for IPSC, it works great, better than I do. The older 220 from Europe come in 9mm, mags are expensive and use a heel release. No advantage to use a 9mm 22o in IPSC. The 229 stock is prohib by barrel length, however several retailers here sell them with aftermarket barrels. This generally disqualifies them for IPSC, but are nice shooters. However the aftermarkets barrels have match chambers and are picky about ammo. If you are planning to use a Sig in IPSC your choices really are the 226 in either 9mm or .40cal. If your pocketbook can afford it, you might want to look at the X5 version.

Yes.

Yes.

No, and yes.

Yes.

No, P229's destined for Canada come from the factory with an extended barrel.

No problem.

Also, just to clear a few things up...

1. You can find 9mm P220's with American mag releases. Some came out of the factory like that, and some are converted (mostly from .38 Super).

2. If you're planning to use a SIG in IPSC, your choices are actually:

P220s, P225, most P226s, P228s, P229s, P239s, P250s, any of the SIGPros we can get here, and some I'm sure I'm missing.

3. Be careful with the X-Five tip, as not all are approved. (No SAOs, IIRC..)

(EDIT: Correction, not the P225, as none of them came with a factory Canada-civilian-legal barrel.)
