Sig 226 or Armco tuned NP-22?

Hey guys n gals,

I am on the fence on this one.

As a recreational shooter (AKA no competitions), I like the reputed quality of the Sig 226 but the Armco tuned version of the Norc NP22 looks relatively attractive. Is the Sig (CPO 9mm approx $850 from some dealers) really worth the extra $380 or so over the Armco tuned NP22s @ $470ish ?

Your comments would be appreciated.

$470 is WAY too high for a Norinco. I don't care whats been done to it. You can get a nice used Sig for $750ish on the EE. If you want the Sig get the Sig.

I ended up selling my P226's but kept the NP34. Not that I like Norinco better, but I like the compactness of the NP34 and I got a lot more money for the P226's than I'd be able to get for the Norinco.
 
I have 5 Sigs, I will be getting a NP-34 to accompany them. Sigs are good, but their quality control has suffered in recent years. Plus you do pay up front for the differance.
 
I'd say spend the extra $ and get a NEW Sig. Unless you know it's mint, and low mileage.

Norinco knockoffs are good for the money, the same way Honda Civics are good for the money.
 
Get the Sig...I've got both and have spent enough on the NP22 (to get it to where I like it) that I could've just bought the real thing and been done with it. That being said...my NP22 is awesome now...but I'd never get the money back out of it if I ever sold it (which I won't).

If you want a SIG, buy a real SIG. A real SIG is a pistol made in Neuhausen-Rhinefalls, like this one:

If you're planning to buy one of those alloy framed phony SIGs, then it doesn't matter when your buy the phony German version, the phony American version or the fake Chinese version.
 
My NP22 just came home today, I picked up Hogue grips a few days ago and as I was giving it its initial cleaning, put them on before I've even shot it.

Man it's a joke. Stay away.
Forget about that, go with SIG.
 
The Norcs are pretty nice. Lots of talk about the NP34s having nicer triggers out of the box, so you might want to go there. If there had been some about when I was buying, I probably would have.

My NP22 is good but not perfect.

Changes needed: grips ($30). A replacement spring ($25), which improved things right away. But still needs a little trigger smoothing/tweaking.

Nevertheless, shot it at a pistol course recently and generally outshot a whole bunch o' Glocks, Sigs, a CZ and even a wicked HK.

Another time, shot a SIG P226 side by side with mine. Real purty. No real difference at my level.

I figure I'll take it to a gunsmith now rather than the full ARMCO job. I'll appreciate the difference more. And I'll have been able to fire about a thousand rounds more too.
