Sig 226 Safariland 6378 holster problem

Hello, I'm looking for some experienced feedback on a Safariland holster I just got passed on to me. The part number is 6378-77-411 which makes it a right hand sig 226 holster. The problem is that it does not work with my railed 226. It seems the tension device is designed different and locks the pistol in the holster. Safariland live chat says they do not sell any holster components for some reason.
Has anyone every modified one of these holsters or been able to source a 774 tension device?

With safariland you have to make sure you get the correct holster for 226. They make two versions one for the railed ones and one for the non railed.

With the ALS holsters they lock on the ejection port of the gun that is what locks it in. I think the issue you are having is the pistol is not able to go far enough into the holster for the lock to lock on the ejection port. The reason this is happening is that the arear around the dust cover is not moulded for a 226 with rail.

You real only have to options, buy a new holster or mod your current one. As this holster is kydex you should be able to use a heat gun to evenly heat both sides of the holster in the dust cover area until the kydex is plyable. Then insert the pistol until it locks it and keep it there until the kydex cools.

If this is just a range holster/never going to be used for real, I would say have at the mod. If this will see real life use do not mod it buy a propper one.

I have done this with holsters I have gotten off of ebay for training and it works fine. Just dont trust you life to it, if you do.

Also google holster ops for cheap safariland holsters. You can just order the holster body from them, some as low as $55

Thanks for the info, I'll probably wind up posting it for sale in the EE soon. Luckily it's not a primary holster so I can play around with it if I decide to. I had to remove the tension block in the bottom just to get the firearm out the first time. I thought this would be the issue as the rail seems to hang up on the tension tab.

What do you mean tension block?

There should only be two things on the inside of the holster:

1) the locking bar that locks into the ejection port
2) a foam or plactic screw cover that fits over the tension screw through the side of the holster or
3) This is only for holsters for guns with lights. A plastic block with rod that enters the barrel to hold the pistol. This replaces #2 on light holsters

There is also a second screw on the back of the holsters that is a tension screw with foam spacer. This however does not enter the main body of the holster.

On your picture number 2, the screw on the side goes through a plastic block that acts as a tensioner or I would assume a guide of some sort. The plastic block has a flex tab on the face that when the rails hit it, the edge of the rail get stuck on the edge of the block and you are not getting that firearm out again without removing the screw.
On my other railed firearm holsters, this is a more solid piece of flex tab that a screw tensioner is set in to I guess hold the firearm in place somehow. I think i'm just going to post it on the EE for someone with a non railed 226 or 220 to pickup. $40 shipped sounds fair
 
Ultimately getting the right holster would be the best bet. Assuming you are talking about the screw by the trigger guard, try removing the block and just leaving the screw in. That might buy you the clearance you need.

Just wondering where I can buy a safari land holster for my sti ranger? No one seems to have them in the Vancouver area. The model is
6378-53-411. Thanks if you know who might stock it or which company ships from the Ststes.
 
+1 on 'easier to get the correct holster ...

I have a few ALS / SLS Safariland holsters - mostly the thigh rigs, but I do have a 6360 for my P226 Rail.

When my 6360 showed up, I spent the better part of a frustrating hour trying to make my pistol fit (it just wouldn't drop the last few mm to allow the SLS to clear the hammer). I adjusted everything, including spraying the interior with silicone etc. - all to no avail. I went back t the store, and once they checked the part #, found out that I had the wrong holster - I had the one made for the P226 without the rail. Believe, no amount of messing about was gonna make that pistol fit ...

Just another case of, "I think I can, I think I can - nooooo I can't ....".

Talk to the guys at DS Tactical in New Westminster, if they don't have it in stock they can order it.
 
Heat the holster -- Its pretty easy to do.

I would recommend wrapping the pistol in a plastic wrap first as it will give you a little room for when it cools.

I've done it to a few holsters -- no a big deal.
 
Thanks for the info, I posted it in the EE and will do the 2-3 BTT/price drop dance to see if anyone needs one for now, then it's experiment time! Hopefully no earth shattering kaboom is heard.
