I see on "sigforum" that there is a shipment of German made 228's coming into the U.S. These ones have a rail, which is a little odd but I guess that makes them "tactical", and they do still have the "folded steel" slide.
I wonder what the chances are of seeing any of them up here are?

The Sig parts list gives the same parts number for the 229 9mm replacement barrel as the 228 barrel. Therefore it may be possible to drop in one of the "legal" 229 replacement barrels which are here now.

There is a picture of the railed 228 on the net. It appears to be nothing more than a newly made 228 slide assembly (note the new-style lettering on the slide) on a 229 frame (look at the trigger guard). Not that there is anything wrong with that, it is a very handsome gun!

I tried putting a 228 slide on a 229 frame awhile ago. This is with a 229 barrel as well. It works fine.

I was looking at the 2009 catalog for SIG Sauer at my local shop on Wednesday (unfortunately the SIG website still has the 2008 catalog in PDF format on their website). The most interesting thing in the catelog for me is the new 229 Dark Elite Tactical (or something like that... SIG has so many variations these days). It is basically a similar idea to the 239 TAC. It is a 229, with a threaded barrel, beaver tail, SRT and black aluminum grips. There are some photos of some of the Dark Elites on the web now, but I have not been able to find a shot of the 229 with the threaded barrel. This is a 220 Dark Elite, but if anyone has a shot of that 229, please post it.

The Elite Dark looks interesting but with the alum. grips and SRT I think they will be prohibitvely expensive if we even see them here. The Gen 2 SAS models have been out for a year now and I haven't seen any of those listed for sale here.
As I understand it most U.S. manufacturers are selling everything they can produce right now so importing the 228's may not be so much about responding to the demand for them; although they are much sought after in the U.S., as getting inventory levels up. I'm sure they will sell all the 228's they import in the U.S. market easily.

cool.. to bad the 228 has a rail. . the looks of the original 228 is wicked imho.
doubt we will see many of them. they arent being brought in by sig. and they will all be pre sold. as they are going to be a collector model. if we can get them up here, then great. but dont count on it.
like kxc223 said .the sas 229 gen 2 has been out for a while. id like to see that one here too.

SIG has put some new guns up on their website, including those "Dark Elites" I was mentioning earlier in this thread. The 229 looks good to me. The adjustable rear sight is funky, but otherwise I like the look of it.
I agree, the adjustable sight looks ###er than a pair of pink leather pants...reminds me of sights S&W put on their 3rd generation semis.

226 and 229 Dark Elites are ordered and will be here as soon as SIG starts shipping (no exact date released yet).

The Limited Run of 228's won't be here for a few months (I'm told) and we do have them on order... we won't get very many but we will have some and they will have 106mm SIG factory barrels.

As more info becomes available we'll be posting these on our website and accepting orders for them at that time.

That will be great if you can get some 228's. Any word on the Gen 2 229's. I see that they are finally listed on Sig's site as well.

wow, great going questar., those 228's will sell fast. glad to see at least a few getting into canada,

OUCH... I just checked Sig's website and the list price for a 229 Dark Elite with the threaded (Can.legal) barell is $1305.00 USD.
