So I've dicided that I wasent completely happy with my S&W M&P9 mainly that I can never have the slide lock back on empty, mostly due to my long fingers and thumbs and if I slightly tuch the slide lock it will skip over it, so I have gone on the hunt for a new 9mm and I may have pissed off a few gun shop owners when I had them take out almost all of there 9mm to find the one I want.
After going through I don't know how many I've dicided on a Sig but was looking for a smaller in which led me to the P229, now looking around I've seen a few with the restricted barrel but I find that ugly so what I'm looking for is one with the threaded suppressor barrel already in it, I know they are available as a aftermarket thing but would like to just get the gun with it.
Has anybody seen one of these around, I have look on a few sites above and so far only IRUNGUNS has them but out of stock.
Another question for thoughs who have a 229 how do you like it? Compare to a 229 and others?
 
So - just so I have this straight, your long fingers/thumbs bump the slide lock on the M&P, so you're getting a Sig 229, so that your thumb has a choice, bump the slide lock, or bump the decocker? It's not a hardware problem, it's a software problem.
 
I have fairly long hands, and I really like my P229, without the E2 grips. The P226 will likely fit in your hand a bit nicer though. That being said I usually shoot my 229 more than my 226's. I agree with the above post though, that it is likely a "software" issue. You won't likely accidentally drop the hammer with the decocker, but if you are hitting the slide stop in the M&P, my guess is it will happen on a Sig as well. A few of my friends have had the same issue when shooting my Sigs.
 
Thanks, and yes I know it's a software issue it may be because I use a higher grip, I'm not sure I've tried puting my thumb under the slide stop but it is not feeling natural.
Aside from alway wanting a Sig the slidelock is further back on the gun, when I get a good grip my thumb is just above the decock.
 
I have a couple of 229's and a couple of 226's in varying configurations and I think I like the 229's best of all. The tiny bit of barrel sticking out doesn't really bother me.
I am aware of the slide release and don't have a problem with contacting it but when I bring new shooters to the range most of them end up holding down the lever and having the slide fail to lock back with an empty mag. So really it's just a matter of adjusting your grip slightly to prevent this from happening.
