Does anyone know if these would fall under the RCMP's classification of an "almost receiver" even though it is not a receiver and rather a trigger parts housing? Why hasn't someone in canada jumped on this opportunity to build 80% units for sale with jiggs like this U.S. company

It's a valid question, not trying to stir up any hostile comments, just curiosity.

I didnt click into the link. But if it doesnt have a serial number then its no go. If it does, it should be fine.

The pictures show just the build/calibre swap kits you can order from retailers who stock them in Canada or the U.S.. It is not considered the firearm. It does not contain the firearm control unit(trigger housing and included parts) that has the serial number on it and is considered the firearm. Here, if you can find them, the FCUs are about $400-$500 each. That is the great thing about 320s, you can swap your FCU into so many different frame/slide combinations with the same serial number.

About half way down the page they mention their stainelss 80% FCU and jig. It is not serialized. So my question is- could a retailer up here do the same thing, create a 80% FCU kit or is that a no go because the FCU is considered a receiver, even though it is not a receiver? It is different than any other handgun in that no other handgun available in canada utilizes a system like this and all other handguns have a lower frame that is considered a "receiver" by the rcmp. This however is not a receiver so is it possible for a Canadian company to make 80% fcu's(un serialized) and sell them with a jig so people can complete and then register them? It would be a way to build a 320 from the ground up fully custom for a reasonable price. Buying the existing finished FCU for $500 is pretty steep, especially if you can't even get your hands on one due to manufacturing/demand

Supahdave, Sorry, I see where you are going with this. I didn't scroll down the page far enough.

The RCMP have deemed the FCU on the 320 as the firearm/receiver, just like ATF did, and it transfers as such. A friend bought one recently from CTC. With no serial number on the frame of the FCU at import, it is a go.

You are right about costs of parts, and the only FCU I found recently was $500. Add up the other parts, if you don't have them, and it is a major investment. You are better off buying an X series off the shelf. Wouldn't it be nice if we could order parts and pieces at a reasonable price. Although my credit card would be worn out.

It is a shame for sure that we don't have regulations and access to options like our southern neighbors do. And a shame that our regulatory bodies interpret things the way they do.
