Looking at 3 variations..
320 m17 -890$- don’t care about the safety. Like the idea of the military’s gun, optics ready.
320 full nitron - 685$- full rail- not optics ready. Cheap.
320Rx 1100$-comes with a Romeo1.Full rail.Almost double the cost of the base gun,upgraded slide an optics.

So I could get the basic, but if I spent 400 more I get the full nitron with an optics ready slide and the night sights and save 150 on the Romero1 if I was to buy it separately in retail. ( say to add to the m17)

If I get the m17 I get good versatility, in upgradability. no one likes the safety. So 200 for safety no one wants , the optics ready slide, desert tan ( don’t care) and the army’s gun. Am I paying extra for the novelty?

The basic is 685 and I could do upgrades to have the options for the others but it would cost way more.

I don’t have any optics so the idea of having a something with optics is appealing.but I could live without it.

Any thoughts about , what you would choose and why.?

What do you want it to do well?

If your answer is IPSC Production, or IDPA SSP, and you're limiting yourself to a P320 platform, the most competitive P320 variant is probably the XFive Legion.

At this point, if you're planning on keeping it, I would get the base nitron black version, or try and find Pro model that already has the optics cut. Sig makes decent red dots, ut they're not on the same level as Holosun or Leupold never mind Trijicon. At least with the base version you can customize it from there and didn't over pay for parts you're not going to use.

@wendell
The x5 comes in at about 1300$
It’s a cool gun but it’s double the base version.
I was mostly going to shoot it at the range. It mostly what I do.
I considered trying the IPSc but thought I. Might be mOre interested in 1911 for that.
Suppose I could have two guns for ipsc

@hypoxia
Oh I plan on keeping it and shooting. I am not an “ on the wall”” collector.
It’s so hard to find or order anything these days. I thought I would take what I could get a hold of.
That’s why I was thinking versatility.
Also the m17 might be very hard to get a hold of moving forward.

I have the base P320. Quickly bought the pro cut slide.
But now if I put an optic on it. I need to put suppressor height sights.
If you have the $. go 320rx of the X-Five.

Some of the P320 slides have a plate that remove your ability to mount a rear sight, so if you want to eventually have a pistol with an RMR and irons, keep that in mind. The new RXP slides seem to have addressed this and you can still retain your rear sight on those models. Also I think we're going to see a lot more aftermarket 320 slides show up in the next couple of years, so that's another thing to consider.

One thing about the M17 I don't personally like is how wide the rear sight is. Depending on your tastes you might not mind it, but I'm not a fan of how much it obscures.

@miloofficer
Good point about after market . Parts can be pricey.
I was hoping to maximize my fleability out of 5e box.
That ware my issue sits.

I thought the sights were high to accommodate for the loaded chamber flag on top.

I had the same dilemma and chose to go with the 320RX model with the Romeo. I put down a deposit and ordered one like 3 months ago and still haven't gotten it yet. If you want a 320 right now, an RX may not be available in Canada yet unless you don't mind waiting.....

I went with the 320 rx. Walked in to place today. 1099$

The m17 is cool but The limited availed optics are pricy
It’s also hard to get a mount , even harder to get back up sights on the plate
And they are a pain to remove. Too many other small issues once I held the m17.

I can run the rx with or with out optics. So it seemed the most versatile
The base 320 is 680$ and optics cut slide is 299 and a Romeo is 450
Easy math.

Thanks for the help everyone
