Sig .40 mags in a 9mm?

Well, the 9mm is a higher pressure load, but the .40 mags are beefier, so you should be okay. Just don't, whatever you do, use +P loads. The .40 mags just weren't designed to handle that.
This a wide spread misconception. SAAMI pressures for both 9 mm and .40 S&W are the same! Now, it's true that 9 mm NATO is loaded to higher pressures (around 42,000 psi maximum average pressure compared to the 35,500 psi SAAMI specs) and the 9 mm brass is thicker at the web so it can take more pressure but mags have nothing to do with any of that. My Mec-Gar .40 S&W mags have feedlips that are too wide for 9 mm rounds and they literally pop out once loaded to six or seven rounds.

I just tried and you can put a .40 P226 magazine in a 9mm P229. This P226 holds 13 rounds of 9mm.
Not all 226 .40 mags work with 9mm though. I found that Mec-Gar mags have too wide feed lips that the 9mm just pops out.
This only seems to work in Sig Sauer high capacity .40 magazines.

It works- I shoot my 226 9mm using .40 226 mags all the time. I had the hardest time finding these mags though since not all .40 226 mags work with 9mm(on some the feed lips are too wide and won't hold the 9mm rounds.)

How about P226 mags in 40 in a 9mm P226???

Ok, my p226, 40/357 mag holds 14, 9mm rounds. Mags seem to be exact height/width (made for the same gun, of course). They seem to feed and strip properly in the 40/357 mag. The top round sits a tiny bit higher than the 9mm mag (maybe a mm at the most). You think this will work?

Pics are of the factory 9mm mag (GREY) vs Sig 40/357 mag (BLACK):

^^This!!......is what I have been looking for.

Holy old thread, Batman. But yes, it works in a Sig 226 9mm and a Sub2K Sig 226 version - from personal experience. Here's a buddy shooting my .40 mag in my 9mm 226 in Chatham, ON:

{Turn the volume down as there is terrible wind noise!}

I think checkmate has changed the design for the factory .40/.357 magazine. It now looks more like the grey one in the pictures shown above.

Does anybody have a new .40/.357 10 rd magazine that can charge and cycle 9mm cartridges?
