Sig 522

my point is they restrict/prohib guns by its looks and potential function (potential to convert into full auto) or what ever BS reason they could think of .why did 550 get into the prohib list in the first place? its no better or worse than AR, mini 14, ACR, or any modern guns that shoots the same caliber . may guns out there COULD be converted into full auto with knowledge and the right parts. doesnt automatically mean we would . so the RCMP shouldn't automatically ban guns base on ..... well, no grounds.

Why stop us from having a .22 which is similar to the S&W MP 15-22 which is restricted because it's "scary" looking but we can have the "scary" looking SR-22 and Mossberg Tactical 22 (both non restricted).....please, but for chump change you can get an SKS which shoots the same bullet as the AK which we also can't have but I'd be scared of some insane bozo having the SKS more then any .22 LR. And this talk about being able to convert to full auto thats insane look on youtube for full auto ruger 10/22's it's there but we still can get 10/22 actions (non-restricted)?

with the registry gone this is our next task. TBH Im not against some restrictions/licensing etc... I guess youd call it gun control, but our next job is trimming the fat off of these laws so they actually make some damn sense.

EDIT- Just read through the whole thing- super informative. Questar you can count on two 522 sales from me if this all works out, regardless you'll be the first place I look when it comes to picking stuff up.

Apparently gun laws and making damn sense are mutually exclusive terms.

*cries* I want a 522 so badly. Can't wait for the registry to be gone so we can regroup and take on the rest of the insanity.

We had a hearing date set for July 4th, 2011 however, the court has agreed with a joint submission, that the hearing be postponed until after a final decision has been released in the Henderson appeal.

The court has rescheduled our hearing to January 2012 (the next available court date) and hopefully the Henderson decision will have been released by then.

Any update on the status of your case, please???

I'd like one of these rifles more than any other firearm.. I hope there's a successful outcome, for this rifle and those like it that will follow.

So, I would like make a comment about all if not most of the threads on here. First of all thanks Questar for making an effort in standing up for your beliefs. Second, I wish more Canadians were aware of what hunters, sport shooters and gun enthusiast really think of our system. It makes me so proud to hear the solid arguments and comments made on many threads. I speak from experience when I say that rounds do the damage and never the gun. Like an earlier thread stated sks vs .22 is a no brainer... Our military would be using .22's if these were more effective. The control and licensing of fireams is very important and does help prevent bad people from getting "good" guns. I don't mean legally acquiring, but illegally, by stealing from owners and shops. This does help prevent badass full autos from hitting the streets. So from this point of view it makes sense. But to stop a rifle from being sold to consumers because it "may" be bad is like not allowing the sales of hummer h1 because I "could" mount a 50cal on it... Lets be real here folks, the laws will be tough to change on existing firearms, but we need to work on the future. Most bad guys who use guns to commit offenses are clueless about making adjustments to convert weapons. And this is a fact. And that's where our politicians are not listening to the police. Please let me know if I'm missing the boat here folks and thanks to everyone who stands up for this just fight.

We have abandoned the case.

The unfavorable decision in the Henderson case was one reason that added to our final conclusion, but cost became the ultimate factor. We spent a ridiculous amount of money on this case before ever reaching a trial... More than could be justified from a business standpoint, and lawyers were talking tens of thousands more to get a ruling which would be undoubtedly appealed regardless of what the ruling was. The total cost estimates were insane and the likelihood was they would screw us one way or the other in the end.

It also didn't help that SIG showed very little interest in assisting us with the case. We had asked them to supply expert witnesses and we received limited response or cooperation on those requests... Seems they didn't want to "rock the boat" in any way.

It is unfortunate that it ends this way... The government uses the financial burden as a powerful weapon to discourage any one person or company from challenging their actions.

Thank you for your vigilant efforts. It's unfortunate that we were unable to win this one - you have nonetheless earned yourself an enviable reputation within the firearms community and will continue to benefit from the support of many of us here on CGN. Thank you!

I was just looking for info on the SIG522 and found this thread.

Thanks for all the effort in trying to bring this to Canada.

here's what i dont get they allow the issc mk22 in canada as a non restricted, and it is probably the cheapest made piece of crap money can buy. with the same capability as the sig 522, folding stock, rails attachments, etc. but the sig is a far more structurally sound product and the sig falls under restricted. really?? what the F is wrong with our system? We all here are responsible gun owners, there has not been a single crime in canada committed with a registered fire arm. there is over 1.9 million gun holders in canada.
Dear Firearms Canada wake up, there is a little thing called common sense and why make it more than obvious to anyone with a mild education that your lack of justification on restricted and non and prohibited is factually obscure.
