Sig 550 Black Special !?

My good buddy has one, (a Black Special with the Diopter Sights) its a great rifle (i've shot it quite a few times)

Very accurate, rugged as heck, awesome iron sights (or you can go with the flat top model for a more optics friendly package).

Its a tad bit on the heavy side, especially if you start adding on a bunch of extras, but bone stock, they are very nice rifles!

Just to clarifiy that statement is oxymoron.
Sig 550 was determine by our previous beloved-glorious-amazing Leader through Order-in-Council to be prohibited

Swiss Arms Black Special series is restricted by barrel length

1MOA accurate out of the box, well built, reliable.

Expensive, in every aspect. Accessories, magazines, aftermarket parts, spare parts, everything. Also very front heavy.

I think this is a tad bit off.

The black special CARBINE (either 14" or 17") is restricted by barrel length, as well as the CQB which I think only comes in green. You can get a black special fullsize with the diopter sights (is what my friend has) and its non restricted. Or you can get the Target version, which IIRC is black. (not to mention the Classic Green)

The 550 statement is true, although IMHO since the OP used "black special" in the same sentence he was probably just cementing what he meant ;)

Only the CQB model is restricted due to barrel length. The standard black special and classic green model are all non-restricted.

EDIT: F-22 beat me too it.

I've owned two, and they were never 0.5 MOA out of the box. I've shot all types of match ammo through mine, both 1/7 and 1/10 twists, and never shot better than 0.8". They used to leave the factory with 10 rd groups at 1.1" or better, but I believe they dropped that requirement. Lets not exagerate its capability.

Fair enough, I was being a bit generous for all the SAN love CGN gets. 1MOA it is.

I have a Classic Green and it's fantastic! The 300m factory test target is just under a 4" 10 shot group, putting it at about 1.25MOA. I'm sure with match bullets and good handloads, you could get it shooting 1 MOA out to 300m.

My Swiss Arms Sniper is regularly .6-.75 MOA with handloads.

Accuracy is over rated, especially with the limitations of a .223. You only need it to be accurate enough to hit a man sized target at the effective range of a .223. 1 MOA is more than enough to get the job done.

Mine is accurate enough once you find the load it likes. Went from 2.5 to 3 in groups down to under an inch when I found a load that worked.

I popped into P&D today. Some young kid was talking to an EPS officer telling him all the about the "Sig 550" (Classic Green). I found it funny that he was mistaking a prohibited rifle for a NR one to an oblivious LEO.

B,

Clearly, you are not aware that us "Oblivious LEO"s walk, and surf the internet, amongst you. Some "Oblivious LEO"s are even CGN members on lunch break, in between calls for service, who occasionally swing by P&D. By the way, P&D is owned by a retired-EPS "Oblivious LEO" and staffed by another retired "Oblivious LEO". While that "young kid," was explaining to me about the "Sig 550", I was listening to you, standing to my left, mention that you were a CGN'er to the other clerk. I also noted you paying attention to my conversation. I made other observations as well, but that's mostly just police work.

Regardless, that young kid, is a new employee at P&D and was providing the best customer service he could, based on the knowledge and experience he has. What good would it do to correct him on a minor issue of firearms semantics, except to my service my own ego.

By the way, I went back and bought that "Sig 550" Black Special Target after my shift was over. Please don't tell anyone... it's prohibited you know. :)

You make me sound like I have some sort of problem with police which I do not. I thought it was actually pretty neat to see a cop in a gun shop BSing. Sad to say but that is the first time I have ever seen that. I am aware of Phil's background, it's one of many reasons I frequent his shop. Too bad you didn't correct him, you could have passed on some knowledge there...
