Sig 551a1. Derivative or?

Saw the new sig 551a1 that sig has just released in the states. It is a US sig 556 upper with a new US made 550 style receiver designed to use the original Swiss mags.

Looks interesting... Would this be prohib? The price is right at 1699 in the states....

Not Swiss made, but half the price....

Yep, just save your pennies and buy a Swiss Arms, they are expensive but darned nice rifles.

Not to mention, even if they weren't deemed prohibited (As a variant of a prohibited rifle) the US State Department would most likely NOT allow export due to them being marked in 5.56 NATO.

Anything with SIG 55x is prohib. As are the PE90's (variant).

Yep, thats about as good as you'll get. Unless someone makes something like the HERA Ar15 mag adaptors (a little sleeve that fit over an AR15 magazine to make it work in a G36) but for the Swiss Arms rifles.

However unless someone can produce them for 5-10 bucks a pop, its not going to do a whole lot, especially with the Dominion Arms mags, which seem to have a very good track record so far.

Even with the new U.S. model, they went to the Swiss mags.

I've heard really good things about their new 551-A1 (vast improvement over their 556... but it may just be a polished turd ). I'd still prefer the Swiss Arms rifles we can get here.
