Comrades,
I just came across an article on the Sig556 Classic. Very nice looking rifle indeed. I've been thinking of getting a Sig AR for a while now, and perhaps this is the one to get. I did a quick google search...I see them in the US as a SWAT model, but can't seem to source them here. My questions are as follows: Is this worth investing in? (i.e. is it worth the huge cash pile that Sigs tends to sell for). And, equally important, are they available in Canada?

Thanks!

I have never seen a 556 in canada, like Bfiles said prohib due to being 550 series which is named prohib, however a user here that goes by cyanide ride has a Swiss carbine (that was re-barreled NR 18.6" by herron arms with a integrated brake) with a 556 lower on it in the ee for I believe $3900. This is a fantastic price in my mind for a NR carbine considering that the base rifle is about $3000 used, the barrel work is about $1500, and the lower is about $500usd + import if you can find one. Then you also have milling to do on the upper to make them compatible.

I would have already bought it if it were not for the fact that I want a factory barreled rifle (not carbine) that is then cut to 18.6" and threaded 1/2x28 to allow choice of muzzle device. Then add the 556 lower.

There is a piston 516 in the EE for $1,500. Which is a steal considering it also comes with optics, extras, and 5 mags.

If you are set on Sig, I would go for that. You can add an ACR stock to it for the '556' look

However if you want the 550 look, go for the Swiss arms carbine.

Double the price, but people say it's worth the quality. I personally have no experience with them

On a budget you could look into famae 543-1
