Anybody got news on whether or not we'll be getting some SIG 556 in Canada?

And with the thing also been available from SIG as a pistol, it would be another good excuse for some 10rds magazines...

Of course a 18.5" barrel "Canadia Friendly" version would be nice...

Why the hell would you even ask about that disappointing POS when you can get the real deal here? Americans loathe that thing and dream of our Classic Greens.

They are never prohibited for that reason.

It's a variant of the 55X series, which is prohibited.

It's less of a variant than the Classic Green and should NOT be classified as a variant of the 550/551... but that is how CFC has entered it into the FRT so at this point it's "Prohibited".

Even if they changed their classification it wouldn't much matter... US State Department refuses to approve export permits for them so it's a moot point.

But of course it was marketted as a varient by the manufacturer. So what was the CFC to do?

The lower should be ok to import if a person wants one for the Swissarms rifle. Seem to be a lot of guys south of the boarder putting the Swiss lowers on the 556 uppers.

The swiss arms receiver is much longer than an AR or others.

Unless you have the hand of a gorilla, the mag button could be too far away.

Not "could be"... the mag release button on the SIG556 is over an inch away from where my finger can reach it. It's impossible to operate in the same fashion as the AR (unless you've got the hands of an NBA giant :)).

Don't get me wrong... there's a lot of good things to be said about it... it would have been nice to have the "option" to purchase them here.

What the hell is it with SigArms - great products, no question about it, marketed by business school drop outs with a chip on their shoulder, they really seem to be trying to sell less firearms each year.

Don't blame us! ;)

We offered to help SigArms make the thing at least marketing friendly to teh CFC, but they (not very politely) told us to f**k off...

They pretty much did the same thing to US customers who wanted something that at least resembled the real Swiss counterpart. That's why I vowed never to buy a SIG firearm inscribed with "Exeter, NH".

Funny... my experience dealing directly with SIG (USA) is that they are great to work with. Very accomodating... very helpful... quick to respond... quite supportive. Cutting out the middlemen (like FN Sports/R.Nicholls) and dealing with SIG directly has been a real pleasure.

Anyway... each to his own.
