Sigarms 556 is NOT marketed as a variant of a prohibited firearm. In fact, it is not marketed at all in this country at this point.MPI said:No. It is marketed as a SIG 55X variant and SIG 55X are prohibited by name. Save for a Swiss Arms and never look back.![]()

).HKfan said:You cannot just assume that since it is called that 556 that it is a 55x variant. That is really stupid, sorry to all of you guys that assume so.
In fact, if you want to play devils advocate then I would say that there is a bigger danger of the rifle being restricted as an AR variant than prohibited as a 55x variant.
Really, it pisses me off how people jump to conclusions. It is like saying that because some SKS's were made in Russia that it is a variant of the AK. They are markedly different rifles.

I didn't realize that Sigarms was marketing this gun in Canada already. Where did you seen the advertisement?redleg said:SIGARMs marketed the gun as an American SG550. That is what their advertising copy said. The RCMP forensics folks make determinations all the time based on what the manufacturer claims. Why do a more detailed study if the manufacturer states that it is a varient of a prohibited firearm?
redleg said:Since the 556 rifles are still not in production, all that exists is speculation about their performance.
