Sig - beaver tail

I thought there was an advantage to it, but after owning/shooting a regular 226 and SP2022, I don't think there's much purpose to it. The base pistols still have a small beaver tail, the Elite just has an extended one.
Really up to preference, but Sig ergonomics are so good for me. I have both, with and without - which doesn't effect my shooting at all.
Night Sights and SRT trigger on the other hand, are upgrades worth paying for. Although, my cheap $500 SP2022 has a fantastic trigger as it is.

there are a couple different styles of beavertails:
no beavertail:
partial:
and full:
For carry, apparently no beavertail is better as one might expect. For the range probably doesn't matter that much though it might if you are using a holster. I've had P220s with both the partial and full beavertails and don't find much difference when shooting. if you have a particularly high grip, you might benefit from a beavertail.

The regular Sig offerings are basically chopped off beaver tails. There is no benefit to the full beaver tail on a 226 from what I can see. The slide sits so high above the web of your hand, you'd have to have a really weird grip to get slide bite. That said, I just like the look of the beaver tail.

I think I'm liking the 'no beaver tail' models. Really no functional/ergonomic difference, so why have it? That a gorgeous Sig. Without it, your pistol's OAL is about 1cm shorter.
The full sized grip panels and the E2 set are so well made, it's hard to fault anything with Sig Sauer pistols.
The only "Practical" purpose of the beaver tail that I can think of is that when the hammer is cocked the beaver tail might shield the hammer from a blow if dropped on a hard surface.
But then again, that's just an opinion...
