Sig Carbine

Can you please explain your statement I think I got lost after " I really don't get the point of co-witnessing in the first place"

You'll have to excuse the pictures, but this is my point. Which set up allows you to see better?

I can see the point to co-witnessing if your in a warzone and have unreliable optics, or if your reflex is not paralax free, but I think you'be be better off just plain using the reflex sight in all other scenarios.

Nicorette I use a EoTech or Aimpoint and my sights co witness I don't have a problem with them Co Witnessing .I guess from your view as a recreational shooter they posse a problem ,try practising with both of them I found that I do not need to have a proper cheek weld .I have shot out to 500 m with my EoTech and hit the target without having a proper cheek weld to prove a point. With a HDS or RDS system you do not require a a good cheek weld to hit the target merely get the dot on target pull the trigger .it is that easy however if you are using the sight for precision work get something else

Off topic, but how does that fn ps2000 shoulder. I never liked bullpup designs for snap shooting and mag changing. I've never found anything faster than an AR...and nice collection you got there.

I may be in the minority, but I always believed one of the best strengths of my CQB and Classic Green/Blue Star was the excellent diopter sights.

For shooting out to 200 yards I find them superior to just about any other iron sights to be found on other black rifles. I did add picatinny rails to them, but for the most part I don't use them that much. If I want to do some fast shooting with the CQB, I find the EoTech the best option for ranges out to 100 yards or so. It will work for longer ranges, but for fun plinking, I generally keep it under 100 yards.

One of the things I really like about the EoTech is that it offers, in my experience, just about the best sight picture of any of the current crop of red dot sights. If you can see the dot, put it on the target and pull the trigger, you're going to hit what you aimed at.

I don't find it "busy" and the rear/front sights aren't that obtrusive for my shooting style. I never really worried all that much about co-witnessing, as the closest I'm going to come to combat with it is a busy afternoon at the range.

As for cheekweld issues, I guess I'm lucky being blessed with a big melon, as I can obtain a comfortable cheek weld and proper sight picture without having to add a cheek piece to the stock. :redface:I did purchase one when I first bought the rifle, but it sits in my reloading room unused for the most part.

As for using telescopic sights, I never bothered with one for the CQB, as the max range I'm shooting with it is 200M. I did mount a low-powered Leupold Mk 4 scope on the non-restricted models however. High rings took care of the rear diopter and again the 'big melon' saved me from having to add a cheekpiece for proper cheek weld. Works like a charm and is my favorite coyote hunting rig. I would've preferred to stick with just the irons, but many shots at 'yotes are well over 200M on the barrens in my area and my 35 year old eyes aren't as sharp as they were at 20.:(

I had talked myself out of buying another SIG, since I "needed" the carbine to complete the set and really didn't "need" another restricted, but looking at that 14.3" carbine it looks like its time to start another rifle fund. :DThat is one sweet looking rifle! Have to say the green furniture looks way nicer than the black too. Hope they stay with the green by the time I've got the mad money saved for another 'investment!'

Ok, so you co-witness in order to get added precision out of your sight. Ok, I understand now. You loose a bit of the sight picture, but you make up for it with long range accuracy.

My Mistake I should clarify this better,When you practice with the HDS or RDS you should also have both eyes open over a short period of time you will get used to using the sight and those Novelty Iron Sights will not interfere with your sight picture this benifits your target acquistation speed

Nope your not a minority, the Diopters are the best irons IMO.

It would just be nice to be able to use a aimpoint up higher over the front hood but have a mount hollowed out in the middle so you could still use the diopter for a longer range shot. That would be best of both dot for CQB and diopter for 80 to 200 yards.

You guys have wrecked a perfectly good thread on Sig #### with all your blathering talk of red dots and co-witnessing:rolleyes:

Truth is, the diopter sights Sigs come with are the best irons going, and someone with their training wired tight are not going to loose ground to someone using a reflex. If one of you guys buy one of these to run a red dot, and b!tch about the co-witnessing, you may want to consider a flat top airsoft AR -or maybe an XCR is more your speed.....

If I put anything on it for optics, it would likely be an ACOG - or I'll keep it with the irons only.

The only true way to tell is for everyone to buy their carbine, optic of choice and post results. Comeon guys, step up to the plate!
