SIG/FAMAE 540/543 photos needed of the bolt hold open

Curious, are there upper receivers available to you in the US to build on with this parts kit?
(Obviously new-production, semiauto-only)
There’s a guy in Minnesota that is getting involved to make receivers and rails. He did a batch for the Beretta AR 70/90.
When the Beretta’s first came in back in 2020 it was unsure if anyone was going to task doing receivers or barrels because there was only around 2300 kits that came in. There’s a lot of time involved reverse engineering, people were wondering whether it was going to be feasible for a company to do a limited run.

This was during Covid so I had plenty of time on my hands and thought I would try to take on bending up a receiver myself for the Beretta. If all else failed, I would wait in hopes that somebody would come through with one. I did manage to get the outer shell completed, but had to rely on other sources for the rails and the rear pushpin block. I’m not a machinist, just a garage tinkerer that doesn’t have a milling machine.
I’d like to think I’d want to tackle the SIG receiver but I’m not so sure. I spent months making up a jig and small little embossing tools for the Beretta, I don’t know if I want to go through all that again when I know in a few months, they’ll be available.

Barrel blanks were very scarce during that time. A buddy of mine located a couple of AR bull barrels that had enough meat on them to be profiled to match the 70/90. I left that work up to him. I don’t know anything about turning barrels or chambering but I do have an old Logan lathe.

Eventually the same company that came out with receivers and the parts to complete them also did a batch of barrels.

Here’s a few pictures when I was working on the Beretta receiver, I have hundreds of photos throughout this endeavor.DBA6917C-0135-422B-9DF7-F3B5B18774D0.jpegD10041EF-23FD-4F0C-9C9B-36268EED58C0.jpeg170FCAB4-4CF2-4C72-8DF8-13F2FB44C0A4.jpeg635274BA-CE9F-4137-BB63-58EA4E3295A9.jpeg5436E80F-E7CD-45C2-9E90-DC78C1C4AF7E.jpeg4107FE15-4332-4EF9-953B-D76E4045A591.jpeg5B64C54F-37C6-414B-83E3-64B717801213.jpeg57B5DE5E-15B9-45EE-954D-D2B8F545F2F2.jpeg3C2BA8FF-1913-4467-9C8B-AF3B23D238FC.jpeg

I don't think so - these parts kits are still MG parts kits and US doesn't want to export those. Similar to M1 carbine parts.

Canada won't care - parts (though with a few exceptions now which these won't fall under) do not require an import permit. You might need to leave the upper receiver parts behind to be fully compliant.

Try to find them in Europe and you should be good to go. If these are ex-Lebanese, the usual suspects in Europe should have them soon enough...
Regarding the scope mount, with Trump‘s new tariffs, some European countries won’t ship here.
I tried to buy a book from Portugal. The guy who had it said the Portuguese post office refused to ship to the US. And of course coming across the pond is terribly expensive, it would’ve cost about $47 shipping to get a $35 book.

The rifle is prohibited in Canada right now - cannot be purchased by individuals at all - but the parts are not controlled _in Canada_. They are still controlled for export, as ridiculous as it would seem for how simple that rail is...

You won't have access to the markeplace on this site as a non-resident of Canada.

Generally, parts and accessories for these _can_ be sent to the USA. You'll just need your ffl to get a form 6 application approved and go through the process from there...

But I think if you are patient, someone will start making them in the US.

Just an idea for you: if someone here were willing to cut their famae up to ATF specs, the import of the entire parts kit would be approved. I've done this for a HK 21, no difference here. But getting a kit from Cenrefire is likely to be cheaper - they are bringing in a batch vs a single kit.
Thank you for the information, much appreciated.
I’m not up to going through the hassle of finding somebody to import anything. I’ve talked to a guy in the past about it and it is just way beyond what I want get involved with.

I did purchase an aftermarket rail for the Beretta 70/90. Same scenario, very few original mounts available. Im not sure if the Beretta and SIG/FAMAE rails are interchangeable.

I doubt looking at it now, the rear sights on the 540/543 are more forward than the 70/90

Hey 21HK,

Just wanted to thank you for inadvertantly confirming my long-held suspicions regarding the origins and purpose of a G3A3 that I've had for many years. My G3 bears the identical Coat of Arms and "AL" stamp shown in your photos. It was French manufacture for what you have now confirmed through your photos was the Lebanese Army. This makes eminent sense once you realize that a Post-WW2 French Mandate (Lebanon was essentialy a French colony) granted "Greater Laebanon" its independence in 1946. It is therefore no surprise that France provided weapons to the Lebanese Army over the years.

Welcome to CGN. I am glad that you were able to receive the photos you needed despite the "gun shy" nature of folks on this website. Our paranoia and suspicion are the natural outgrowths of having been vilified and oppressed by our own goverment for decades now. They have gone into overdrive during the past decade, desperately wanting to place Canada firmly back in the early 1800s insofar as firearms technology is concerned. No centerfire semi-automatics and no .22 LR plinkers with "tactical" features will be permitted. They want to confiscate our private property with lilttle or no compensation. We (including the goverments of 2 provinces and 1 territory) are pushing back hard, with the assistance of our Police agencies who would much rather see the tax dollars expended for useful purposes fighting actual crime. These are interesting but very stressful times for Canadians who are passionate about their firearms rights.....

Bartok5,
I thought I recognized your G3, saw it posted on the FAL files. 👍🏼

I didn’t expect anything other than the greeting I received being a new comer asking sketchy questions, it’s all good.
I spent a few hours reading through what all you have going on there, looks like the s*** show started back in 2020.
All I can say is, the more I read the worse it got, I had to set the phone down …literally walked away shaking my head.

Below is part of the description that is posted with the SIG kits.

Regarding Picatinny Rails for Optics mounting, what about "Stormwerkes" in the USA? They specialize in Picatinny Rails for optics mounting for a wide variety of modern and obsolete service rifles. I have their rails for the Daewoo K2, the FNC, M 11/9 and the Uzi Bayonet Lug. All are excellent in terms of fit as well as the matching finishes. Just a thought, although I don't see the SIG or FAMAE Rifles on offer on their website. Perhaps with the kits coming in they could be convinced to produce a new Rail for the SIGs?
