Anyone brought home a SIG MCX yet? If so, let's see some pics. I ordered one today, so with AB CFO transfer times down to 2 days (or so) I should see it next week shipped from Montreal. It is a very cool new design and the price was quite reasonable given the exchange rate. Now we just need a 9" .300 B/O conversion kit, the HK-style retracting stock, and perhaps some new SIG optics goodness....

Howdy GT,

The 9" pistol would be a great way to start provided MD Charlton is able to bring in the folding and collapsing buttstocks as an add-on accessory. I personally don't need another shorty 5.56mm, so the 16" pencil barrel in a 6 lb package works well for me as a starter set-up (being in a wheelchair, lighter & less front-heavy = better). Where the 9" really comes into play for me is in .300 B/O. I want a conversion kit so that I can sell off my 7.5".300 B/O AR to make room for the new MCX - if that makes convoluted sense!

I got to handle the MCX at SHOT last year, and am convinced that it is the future of the AR-system. Lighter, with more modularity, replaceable steel wear-points, etc. Pretty smart how they channelled the AR-180 dual-op-rod design into a modified AR upper, then "borrowed LMT's QCB system to create a true multi-cal capability right out of the starting gate (unlike the ACR). SIG has really out-thought the competition with this system. I truly believe that they have a ground-breaking combination of design features with the MCX. What's not to like?

I had one loaned to me by MD Charlton about a month ago. I did a detailed review of it here if you're interested:

Battle Beaver

A friend of mine has one. I shot about 60 rounds through it. It was very precise in 5.56, and very soft shooting. It is a great rifle. I would like to shoot it with a smooth tubular hand guard though. The trigger wasn't as good as the swiss arms shorty I fired, but very nice rifle.

Yes, the RCMP says the MCX is an AR variant. MCX takes AR triggers for starters. And the MCX upper will mate to any AR lower. I assume that stuff factored into their "decision".

Battle Beaver

I suspect it is not what RCMP said, but how it is submitted to get a speedy FRT.

Lower is the firearms. Upper is just a component. The component does not determine the nature of the firearms, otherwise a JR carbine will be an AR variant for being compatible with an AR stock.

A MCX lower will not will work an AR15 upper. Yes, you can mate an AR upper to a MCX lower, but you cannot even load and ready such a combination.

With the way the Lab works and the time it takes, it is a reasonable strategy to submit it as an AR and call it a day, instead of dragging it over 3 years ( or forever like the B&T AC556) Getting it as restricted is probably a good compromise instead of playing a wait game that may go on forever.

+1, I thought it was a very thoughtful, intentional presentation BB. Keep doing that and you will be a youtube millionaire in no time.

Would love a 9" version.

$2800 is Knights Armament money, though!

Not really, a SR15 is $3,300 and the MCX is $2700, that's $600 difference. What platform is better though? That's hard to say, but I'd rather get the SR15 if I had enough money.

MCX as submitted to French Trial with Colt Canada Eagle launcher. Image courtesy of strategik blog.

I am hoping to see that folding collapsible stock available in the commercial version. The current fixed folding stock is not that great

unfortunate if importers are doing this and I can guarantee they lost my sale and probably many others because of the R status

The barrel lengths are 9" and 16" so it would have been restricted in any case. This way, we get them sooner (most importantly, we get them).
