Is it possible to buy just the lower receiver (which I'm guessing is the part which makes it restricted or not) in Canada?

I'm asking for a friend from Switzerland who would like to bring his rifle back to Canada. But would probably require a frame (lower) exchange.

I know nothing about these guns.

Thanks

On the Swiss Arms the upper receiver is the registered part, also if he is bringing a Sig 550 etc receiver it is prohibited in Canada, make sure Of which firearm he is trying to import?

The upper is the serialized firearm, not the lower. Is his a 550? If it is the answer is its prohibited here.

Too bad, he was really hoping to bring it back with him.

It was issued to him for his compulsory service.

If he could find just the upper could he not bring back just the parts and assemble a non restricted?

illegally perhaps.

But as stated finding an upper to put it all in would be next to impossible as the upper is the registered firearm, not to mention, if you found one, it would cost nearly as much as buying a new Swiss Rifle anyway.

This is true.

It's too bad for him as it does have sentimental value. I guess he'll just have to see about bringing his handgun over as long as it isn't prohibited.

He can sell his rifle to me ;)

For the rest: no chance, it's even considered a converted auto-rifle over here, so he'd have to get an export permit for that.

Plus the upper is clearly marked as a former army rifle.

Swiss arms upper

Check Calgary Shooting Centre, they have a seperate upper and lower both for sale in Classic Green colour.Marcus should be able to get uppers and lowers to be sold seperatley.

Thanks for the replies guys, he knows about the non restricted versions but was just wondering about using his to create a non restricted in Canada.

Thanks for the heads up about Calgary shooting center
