Hey everyone,I was curious about your oppinions of the Mosquito in comparison to the Ruger MK111.
I know the Ruger has a great rep but I need help on making a choice.

Thanks:confused:

The sig was made for a 6 yr olds hand. I really dont know why SIG and walther made there 22lr pistol way smaller then there real ones. Go with the Ruger MkIII or better buy a Glock, CZ 75 or a 1911 and put a 22lr conversion slide on her.

+1.
The Sig and Walther are made for, and no offence intended, Munchkins.
My vote goes for the CZ75/85 with Kadet (22LR) top end..but pick your fav!

Hey, I'm 250lbs and almost 6' and it fits my hand like a glove:p . Actually its the best fitting pistol I have. Strike that. My Colt Woodsman fits real good as well. Actually, when I think about it so does my 686 and my 1911.

Well maybe the SIG is a bit small but still a great fit. Do bear in mind that it only likes heavy loads, even with the weak spring in it. Yellowjackets run well but Stingers don't. I've heard mini mags is the standard food this this bug but haven't tried them yet. Only have about 400 rounds through mine. A target pistol it is not. Up against my Ruger MKIII it pales in comparison. They are two totally different types of animal. The Ruger is very well made although a bit quirky in its take down procedure where as the Mosquito breaks down as easily as its big brother. The Mosquito is fun but for more serious shooting, the Ruger is much better and there are alot of others out there that blow the Mosquito away. The Mosquito may be a better "second gun" for someone just starting out.

My wife has a Sig Mosquito that she shoots a couple of times a week. She loves the gun! It has been very reliable with high velocity ammo (CCI mini-mags) and the weak spring.

This is a link to my "SIG Mosquito vs. Walther P22" thread:

Lots of good pictures and info there, including how big the grip is in my hand (normal size hands, 6'3", 220 lbs.). The grip on the Mosquito is about the same size as a Glock 19 grip.

I like the gun. Some things to keep in mind:

Use the copper-plated CCI Mini-mags or Velocitors only. Don't buy this gun if you plan on using the regular cheap lead .22LR ammo. You will have too many problems.

Put the highest of the three front sites on. The middle sight (which will be on when you buy the gun) is too low and you have to dip the top of the front site below the top of the rear site for it to line up straight.

As an above poster said, use the weaker of the two springs it comes with (the longer one). The more rigid spring is supposed to be for high velocity rounds, but I wouldn't put that on unless I was up to the CCI Stinger level of high velocity - anything below that the gun works better with the other spring. The gun won't lock open after the last shot (at all) with the heavier spring using CCI Mini-mags.

The guns are being shipped with a whole bunch of white goo inside them, especially around the hammer and the decocker. Try and clean as much of that out of there as you can before using it.

The threaded barrel cap will loosen up as you shoot. I just took mine off. I think it looks better without it and it is a pain to keep tightening it. My understanding is that it only protects the threads from bangs against other objects. Firing the gun without the cap (or a suppresor) will not damage the threads - you'll just get a little powder residue on them. (Somebody correct me on that if I am wrong).

One other comment...

My girlfriend has a Ruger 22/45 with a 4.5 inch bull-barrel. This is pretty much the same thing as a Mark III, except that it has a polymer frame and a different grip angle.

The Ruger is more accurate than the SIG. No doubt about that. If you are wanting to bang a whole bunch of shots into tight little groups... definitely go with a Ruger. I call the SIG and the P22 "fun guns". Most people seem to be able to shoot them a bit more accurately than they can shoot 9mm pistols, but not as accurately as they can shoot a more target oriented .22LR pistol.

SIG Mosquito is a totally fine piece of gear for a serious shooter to buy. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I've got lots of different guns and I take my Mosquito with me out to the range pretty much every weekend. The decision on what to pick only becomes critcal if you are only going to buy one $500 gun... in that case you need to make sure you do all your research and make the right choice.

That would be my advice as well. Read some of the American forums and you will see your odds of getting a POS Mosquito are about 50/50. Not a chance I'm willing to take.

I got the AA kit for my Glock. They finally make them for the large frames like the G20/21! It is well made and eats all the MiniMags you can feed it. I did have one FTE on the first and second mag each, but not since then. It is almost surreal how light it makes the Glock. The kits aren't cheap, but the savings in ammo cost will make up for that. What I like best is the fact I get to train with the trigger on my G21 for cheap instead of 'learning' another gun. Rapid fire is fun and accurate with little to no recoil too....

I really like my skeeter. Now with ~1500 rounds through it it's getting less picky with ammo. 75% of what I shoot are MiniMags with the heavy spring, it will now cycle Stingers and on the other end of the spectrum Eley target rifle (yellow top box) with the "white" (longer) spring 95% of the time. The pistol is a very good trainer IMO for full size SIGs and cheep to shoot. During the week sometimes I'll pop up to the range over lunch and pop off a hundred or more rounds.
