Sig Mosquito Haters WTF?????? I have no complaints!!!!!

Why I hate the Mosquito:

Got one of the first ones in Canada. Would not ####ing work. Tried every ammo out there. Would get 4-10 FTE, FTF, WTF per mag with both springs. Kept plugging away with mini-mags till it sorta worked ok, down to 2 jams per mag. Fed it a Stinger. Had a case head separation (thats why you should wear glasses when you shoot). After I got the case out of the chamber the gun worked ok. Accuracy was the ####s. I found that the barrel screw was loose, so I tightened it and hit it with blue loctite. Then the right side safety fell off. I actually managed the find it and put it on with some loctite. Went shooting again and the gun was doing 6" at 15 meters, checked everything. All was good. Used it in a IPSC fun match for ####s and giggles, worked ok till the right side safety fell off. After another mag the gun started jamming 100% of the time. Checked it over and the slide was cracked on the left hand side from the back 1.25" forward. Guess cast zinc is not made to handle the awesome power of the mini-mags. Sent it in for warranty work (known factory defect). Got the pistol back after 14 months, still has no accuracy and needs 75% of the rounds to have the firing pin hit them twice. Click, Bang, click, bang... Lol! By far the biggest ####ing piece of #### I have ever owned. I should have waited and just bought the Sig p229 rimfire pistol...

It was the 1st handgun I have bought. It was jamming constantly for a while until I switched to the lighter spring, then jammed a bit less. Now that I have it broken in (prob over 1000 rounds), and I keep it oiled well, I have 0 jams and FTF, FTE with it. So it definitely needs a good break in.

I have the sport model and it has a few issues: 1) the barrel weight and front sight become loose after shooting several magazines so I now dont use the weight and will just put the sight into the slide. 2) I also have the picatinny rail attachment and red dot sight. The rail is plastic and when attaching to the frame, it moves, or if its attached too tightly, it will squeeze the plastic frame together and will start causing friction between the slide and frame.

Overall im happy with it and the accuracy is pretty good (hitting gongs at 100 yards) but it definitely has a few design flaws.
 
^ sounds like a tweaker's gun. my S&W 22A has been flawless since round 1 as long as i don't use Win HVXpert (silver box). didn't even need a break-in of XX rounds.

only shot it out to 25 yards, though. haven't shot much of anything at 50, and never anything at 100. wonder how good it would be out to those distances... how big are the gongs you're pinging?
 
I had one too that was a POS. I tried every brand of .22lr ammo I could get my hands on. Even the Mini-Mags or Yellowjackets didn't do their 'magic'. The pistol failed to feed and eject even though it was clean and well lubed. I couldn't get through a single magazine without some sort of hiccup and was lucky to be able to string more than 3 rounds. I sure liked the look and feel of it but I have other .22lr pistols that functioned almost flawlessly out of the box and didn't want to waste any more time and effort on the Mosquito and sold it. YMMV....
 
I think what you were reading was about when they first came out, I bought one when they were brand new and I couldn't get through a magazine without at least 3-5 FTE/FTF it was horrible (with any kind of ammo, I tried pretty much everything) But now that it has been around for a while, they have worked most of the kinks out but it does still seem to be a bit picky on ammo.

I couldn't handle it anymore, I got rid of mine and upgraded to the Sig Sauer P226 in 9mm and never looked back :D

Yah I plan on tweaking around with it a bit, maybe do some trigger smoothing. I believe the far gongs are about 18 inches in diameter. I mostly shoot the small (about 6 inch) gongs and the heads of bowling pins at 25 yards tho, those are fun.

Forgot to mention it likes federal american eagle ammo the best (40 grain lead, then 38 grain JHP).

Im also thinking of picking up one of the new GSG 1911 0.22's. Cheaper then mosquito and all made of metal (or alloys), lots of interchangeability of standard 1911 parts, and hearing of great reliability.

yep! and reviews have been positive so far...... eats all sorts of ammo, accurate, etc

but I guess time will tell...
 
So I just went to the range today, first time in 15 years. Just got my PAL 2 weeks ago. Did a tonne of research but still bought one of these mosquitoes, the sport model. Cleaned the hell out of it and lubed it up real good. BTW cleaned the mag too.

One FTF near the end of 100 rounds, found it to be very accurate as well. Ate everything I fed it too. Oh yea 2 missfires however I always chalk that up to ammo. Very fun gun to shoot so I guess I got a good one. Still very happy with it.
 
sig mosquito

I bought a sig mosquito from epps about 1.5 years ago. I had all kinds of problems with it. Jamming, not ejecting...trigger would not engage the firing pin...lots of issues. After 5 months I gave up and brought it back to Epps who agreed that this was a problem gun and they replaced it with a new sig mosquito.

The new sig mosquito has worked well...I have put through hundreds of rounds of CCI's and Remington Golden Bullet. About 2 months ago, I was at the range firing a few rounds....the slide blew in half. I took it back and I am awaiting a new slide.....

Shooting a 22 is a frugal way to practice and get better. I think it's important to have a good, reliable 22...an important tool in becoming really good. So last week I bought a CZ75 Kadet...this is a 22 one can rely on.

Last time I was at the orillia range most of my time was spent at the 50/100 yard gong.

Good epps story, when I bought mine there a few months ago they said they never had any complaints or returns with the mosquito
 
The Sig Mosquito "hating" makes sense to me.

I don't hate the Mosquito. In fact, I like Sig quite a lot. I like the look of the Mosquito for some stupid reason and I love the feel of it in my hands.

I don't like the fact that it functions poorly. I don't ever expect to find myself in a combat situation with the Mosquito but if I or someone else did it would not be a good situation because it isn't reliable by any stroke of the imagination.

I'm not pulling this out of my arse, I've shot one extensively, a load of failure to fire and failure to feed issues. This was with mini-mags!

I don't understand why in a world where there are a ton of fantastic .22lr pistols people to continue to buy crap products. If someone wants a Sig Mosquito, I understand.. but the power of wanting to buy is strong. Stop. Don't purchase that pistol that has a plethora of terrible reviews. Do some comparative shopping and product research, use the search function on the board or skim the first few pages of this Pistols and Revolvers section to see the latest fad. Then, feed your GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) with good, reliable products. Unless, it's an antique or some collectors piece in which case you're probably not buying it for performance reasons.

I don't know about most people but at the time I was new to shooting handguns and just plain didn't like the look of the other .22s on the market, they all looked ugly. (although they have grown on me and I now love my ruger 22/45)

But I would say probably the main reason people still buy them, even with the bad reviews is that they actually look like a normal handgun, they have the tacticool look. (that and the whole slide moves which I found cool)
 
Yeah the space guns are too "Star Wars" looking for my liking! I owned a CZ Kadet as my first handgun, but sold it wanting to get a 9mm! Now that my collection is growing I chose the Mosquito for a .22 as it actually looked like a gun, not a phaser, or laser gun! Lol!

And I was at the range again yesterday. 100 rounds of Thunderbolts, and 100 rounds of Blazer with 1 FTF from the Thunderbolts. Guess I was just lucky!
 
Mine only eats mini Mags & had it's slide fracture last week as per the others.
Not too happy about this ...
Fortunately noticed prior to complete separation.
Good reminder for safety glasses and for Sig's legal department.
