I’m thinking about purchasing a Sig mosquito. I’ve heard both the good and the bad about these things but it seems that those who own the newer models (2009/2010) have had little to no problems. Does anybody have any experience with a newer model that can give me an honest opinion? I want firsthand experience not hearsay!

Apparently they improved dramatically since their first iterations. Do a google search for "mosquito serial" or somesuch. I remember reading an article about how all pistols after a certain serial (A06??) were much better. Mine is after that number and I find it works to satisfaction.

Broke mine in with CCI mini mags as suggested and now it eats anything (except american eagle) without any issues. I love it.

As far as I am concerned it is all in the cleaning and lubrication. I have had one for 3 years now and if it gets dirty it will FTE, FTF and stovepipe. To clean it I just spray shotgun bore cleaner everywhere and then compressed air and all the dirty gets blown away. I lubricate with Rust Check spray, just because that is what I have and I can honestly say it is 99% reliable for 500+ rounds. I had it at the range 2 days ago and put over 500 rounds through it with no problems, well the odd fail to fire but a second strike with the double action cured those. I use the light spring and winchester 333's. My serial number is in the 56000's and I was told that those over 40000's were better by my dealer.

once you have it broken in and keep it lubed, it will feed anything without problems, as long as the lighter spring is in.

mine is a newer 2009/2010 model and it had FTF issues before it was broken in

I must have had an early one. Jammed even with CCI minimags, regardless of the spring used.

Switched to a Ruger 22/45...even if I need a dowel, plastic hammer, rubber mallet to disassemble and reassemble.

I had one too that jammed with cci, changed spring, cleaned and lubed after every range trip,I got a feed ramp polish job done and it was way better,a freind of mine has one and it will eat anything and he never cleans it,so it's kind of a crap shoot

Sig makes some really nice conversion kits now that fit on their full sized 'real' pistols. I personally have not tried them but it looks like they did it right. There are some good deals available with the kits that make it cheaper than buying separately. If I didn't already have several full size sigs I'd go that route for sure. Good reviews from what I've read.... waaaay better than the squito that's for sure.

I've had a mosquito for about 3 years but was not too happy with it. It just stays in my vault most of the time. So I traded it with GSG-1911. Been happy since then!

I think if I were to buy now, I would go the GSG 1911 route, unless your dead set on a Sig (even though I dont think sig manufactures the mosquito)

Not that I dont like the mosquito now that its broken in, but that I have a 0.45 1911 so it would be a good trainer

I have one and love the gun. I did found lots of trouble in the breakin, but a drop of oil on the bullet and down the edge of bullets in mag fixes all problems with every brand of 22 used. Now I just add oil when getting close to 500 rounds to keep things smother. My experience is about 1 for every 100 bullets fail, but lots of time it's ftf. Rotate bullet and let pin hit different part or shell. For the price of gun it's very good for target and very tight groups less then 1" at 10 yards 10 shots
