I am looking at getting a new 22 pistol, have been looking at the Sig Mosquito. Does anyone have any comments about this pistol? Should I be considering any other brands/models?

Thanks in advance.

-Mine had some stuff brake right off in the slide
-Jam and FTF/FTE issues more than it fired.
-Only ate good ammo
-extra mags not avalible
-Looked good (except for the extension)

Wolverine was kind enough to warrenty it for a brand new one which I sold right away...

Get a high standard or a ruger...

Many people recommend the Ruger 22/45.

I don't own a Mosquito or a 22/45. I've fired a 22/45 and they're quite nice. I think they're only ~$350 or so.

Just an alternative to consider...

A lot of people say those things are jam-o-matics...why is that? Do they use cheaper materials or a completely different design than the P22x series?

Other than it's appearance, the Mosquito has nothing in common with the Sig/Sauer designed pistols. Actually, the Mosquito was entirely designed and produced by Sigarms in America. Sig/Sauer had (and continues to have) nothing to do with this pistol.

I have yet to get through a full mag without at least a few jams (FTE's and FTF's) yet in 2k rounds. The only ammo I have left to try is CCI mini-mags... supposedly this is the only ammo it was designed to work with. It is a very frustrating pistol...

here's mine.i don't pretend to know the developement or manufacturing history of this pistol, but it clearly shows on the slide "MADE IN GERMANY"

i like it alot.there is a definate breakin period where ftf's occour often when using bulk ammo.use only stingers and mini mags for the breakin if you want to avoid this. after a brick it is now handling federal champion vaue packs well.

the one thing i really don't like is the mag safety,it does not allow you fire the pistol without the mag seated, this same function doesn't allow me to switch the mag release for lefty.

Well then, I stand corrected. I do admit that I was going off of information from a dealer a while ago when I was interested in buying one.... Thanks for the firsthand info.

I was looking into one of these, but instead bought a Glock 22. I was thinking I might just pick up a Advantage Arms conversion kit for it as it is cheaper then a P22 or the Mosquito. Still have to love how the Mosquito looks.

Being a big fan of most things SIG, I hate to say it, but don't get one. I did extensive reading-up on the mosquito and LOTS of people have had a lot of problems with them. Go to Sigforum.com for reviews. There are a lot of .22s out there that are more accurate and more reliable... and probably cheaper.
I'm not sayin there ain't great specimens floating around, but 'finicky' and 'FTF' etc etc comes up WAY too often IMHO. Don't take my word for it though, I don't own one. What to get instead? Can't beat a Ruger Mkii or iii for price, availability, parts (not that you'll need em), upgrades etc. Can't beat a good S+W .22 revolver either.
