In the states, that will be marketed as a pistol. If it was a rifle, it would be an sbr requiring a stamp which would significantly reduce sales.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, aren't these classed as a rifle and thus can only hold 5 rounds just like the CZ Scorpion?
If so, barrel length does not apply.


Prohibited firearms include:

Handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm or less and handguns that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition, except for a few specific ones used in International Shooting Union competitions;
rifles and shotguns that have been altered by sawing or other means so that their barrel length is less than 457 mm or their overall length is less than 660 mm;
full automatics;
converted automatics, namely full automatics that have been altered so that they fire only one projectile when the trigger is squeezed; and
firearms prohibited by Criminal Code Regulations.

Don't think they're in Canada yet. It all depends what the rcmp decide. The cz is classed as a civilian sub gun not a rifle which is why it will never be allowed more than 5rd. mags (this is what the cz rep told me in any case)

I was always under the assumption that restricteds can only either fall under handguns or rifles.
IIRC, someone had originally submitted the CZ Scorpion with a buttstock and was therefore treated as a rifle.
I'll have to look into more!

Yes. Mares legs are classed as pistols in the US to avoid SBR rules but are NR lever action rifles here.

Sadly think this is going to get skewered two different ways, how can it come in as a pistol with a barrel of less than 106mm? Secondly at about 14.5" long with the stock collapsed, and still able to fire, the OAL puts it under the 660mm - while sill being able to fire.

I'm pretty sure on the first point, not 100% on the second.
