What are the key differences between the P220, P226 and P229? Besides being able to get the P220 in 10mm...

Have any of you purchased the Legion versions? If yes which one and why?

P220 is single stack original a .45
P226 is double stack
P229 is a compact. Double stack mag

I've had many Sigs in the past but all were before legion models came out. Seem a bit overpriced IMO.

IM_Lugger has it captured pretty well.

I'm a big fan of the SIG P22x series, especially the Legion models. I wrote a detailed post about the P226 Legion in this thread, and a quick overview of the P220 Legion in .45 in this thread, and an overview of the classic West German P226 in this thread. Let me know if you've got any questions.

Will definitely take a look...thanks pal.

About the P-series...seems even their "full-size" are really Commander side at 4.4" (barrels). Why not put out a Government (5" carrel) size version of their P226/p220? Just another half inch heh...Not that it truly matters...though to some "size matters". :) Why call them "full-size" when they really aren't? Any how...have a good one and stay "safe" (COVID)...

Thanks Luger.

Personaly i much prefer the looks of 4.4" full size /regular models vs their bulky compacts or 5"models.

It's been years since i sold my last Sig but kinda miss them now esp the two tone p226 with no rail. Can't even remember why i sold it, certainly prices are much higher now also.

Agreed. I especially love the look of the older non-railed models.

Yeah they are the next level up. But for me I'd buy a second LDC before another X-5

Sucks sig Germany closed

Absolutely. They made some very nice firearms. At one point I had four X5’s and a German built P210; all five were flawless in terms of function, fit, & finish. But, it turns out I prefer 1911’s so they all got sent to new owners. Not much a fan of DA/SA so never paid much attention to the LDC models.

I do have limited experience with the 226 Legion SAO. Great trigger; gave up very little if anything to the L1 trigger in the X5’s. Nice size/weight and good fixed sights. Ive always liked 226 grip shape, Legion is no different. Unfortunately it keeps the slide release in the same goofy spot that makes a high grip problematic and the whole “Legion” thing is a bit gimmicky.

Yeah, it's like comparing a 92FS to a 92A1 - I get the utility of a rail for people who need them but nothing beats the lines of an unrailed full size P220 or 92FS. Peak ###y.

I concur.

But with the 92FS, it's gotta be the straight dust cover for ###y.

Also the P220 came in 9mm, 9mm Steyr, .38 Super and a couple others. I have an all German non rail P220 in .45 acp. I agree the non rail looks better:)

I've had my eyes open for one in 38 super for years and have never seen one come up for sale this side of the border. Not many around unfortunately. Didn't realize they did it in 9mm Steyr as well. No doubt that would be much rarer.

P220 folded slide/internal extractor pistols were available in-
9x19,7.65x21,9mmSteyr,38Super & 45ACP.

SIG USA P220 models are/were available in 22LR,10mmAuto & 45ACP.

SIG DE Master Shop X series Pistols were available in multiple calibers also.
