After much agonizing, I finally decided on a Sig P226 in .22 as a first handgun - and at the same time buy one of those 9mm caliber conversion kits for it. (As I understand it from several sources, this is the same as buying a 9mm gun with a .22 kit, only it costs $500 less......if that isn't true, someone please set me straight.)

Anyway, now I find that no dealers in my area have them in stock, and predicting their next shipment seems to be a bit of a black art. Anyone know where I might get what I'm looking for?

Classic 22's are what you are looking for, roughly $700 for the pistol and the conversion kits runs about $500-600, Questar has both in stock.

Perhaps I am confused, but the Questar website says the pistols are a custom order. 14 weeks seems like an awfully long time to wait.

Our website is showing the 226 Classic 22 as being 8 to 10 week delivery right now. Quite often we get them here faster but we prefer to quote you a realistic delivery time and then make you happy by delivering earlier than expected, rather than promise you what you want to hear (a fast delivery) and then continually disappoint you by having to later say it's going to be late.

SIG is busy... on many models the demand far exceeds supply and this is causing continuous backorders and delivery delays in the US. We try to be as accurate as we can with our delivery estimates and that's why we give you the estimate range and it's also why (sometimes) it sounds like a long time... longer than you want to wait... but we'd rather be honest and accurate.

The good news is that the X-Change kits (9mm) are in stock right now :)
